STATEMENT OF WORK
FOR A
24/7 FREE SPACE 5G COMMUNICATIONS FORECASTER - SODAR
15 JULY 2020
GENERAL
The 24/7 Free Space 5G Communications Forecaster - SODAR is anchored on highly specialized and continuous measurement of atmospheric parameters giving rise to optical turbulence. This capability is to be met using Sound Detection and Ranging (SODAR) equipment.
The following specification lists the minimum requirements for the capability:
1. Continuous, 24/7 operation
2. The SODAR shall vertically profile optical turbulence to at least 1000m above the surface at a resolution of at least 10m.
3. The SODAR shall be capable of profiling optical turbulence to as low as 50m above the surface using inferred/derived temperature structure constant from SODAR measurement.
4. Measured wind speed accuracies: at least 0.2 m/s (horizontal) and at least 0.05 m/s
(vertical).
5. Measured wind speed ranges: 0-50m/s (horizontal) and +/- 10m/s (vertical)
6. Equipment must be capable of operating when temperatures range from -350C to
500C and relative humidity ranges from as low as 0% to as high as 100%.
7. Operating, ambient temperature range: 100 to 350C
8. Operating, ambient relative humidity range: 0 to 95%
9. Power requirement: 100 to 240 VAC.
10. Data Averaging: Selectable, 1-60 minutes
11. Data outputs include: turbulent kinetic energy; temperature structure constant to derive optical turbulence; wind speed and direction; mixing height; eddy dissipation rate
12. System control and data processing designed for use with Microsoft® Windows operating systems, to simplify set up, operation, data collection, and analysis
