The Contractor shall remove and properly dispose of existing roof prior to installing new roof, including all roof decking, drains, new board insulation with vapor barrier, and fully adhered ballasted Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) membrane roof with pavers.

The second roof repair will take place on the Carpenter Shop Roof which is approximately 2,648 square feet and is in the town of Dutch John, UT, approximately 3 miles from the power plant site.

Specification Details:

The Contractor shall remove and properly dispose of existing roofs prior to installing new roof which includes all roof decking, drains, new board insulation with vapor barrier, and fully adhered ballasted EPDM membrane roof.

Power Plant and Carpenter Shop Roof Installation Information:

G. Roof Deck Installation

H. Where locations and dimensions of miscellaneous metalwork shown on drawings are dependent upon existing equipment and/or equipment furnished, confirm locations and dimensions prior to fabrication of miscellaneous metalwork.

Roof Deck Insulation

A. ASTM C 1289, Type I, Class 1, Grade 3 (25 psi).

1. Manufactured without use of hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) blowing agents.

2. Board Thickness: 2 inches minimum. Taper insulation to slope toward roof drains for adequate drainage and to eliminate potential for ponding.

3. Microbial growth resistant in accordance with ASTM D 6329.

4. Insulation shall be intended by the manufacturer for use above cement roof decking and beneath a membrane and EPDM ballast pavers.

5. Insulation system and facer material must be compatible with membrane application specified and as approved by the roof membrane manufacturer and incorporate vapor barrier. Alternatively, a separate vapor barrier membrane may be installed as approved by CO and manufacturer, provided that both are fully adhered to each other and to cement roof deck.

6. Finish on upper side of insulation shall be compatible with adhesive required by the roof membrane manufacturer

7. Insulation shall be a standard product of the manufacturer and shall be factory marked with the manufacturer's name or trademark, the material specification number, the R-value at 24 degrees C 75 degrees F, and the thickness. Boards shall be marked individually.

8. The long-term thermal resistance (LTTR) value of the insulation shall be not less than 14.5.

9. Insulation panels should be no larger than 4 feet by 8 feet.

Ballasted Epdm Roofing

EPDM Sheets

A. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), ASTM D4637/D4637M, Type III, fabric or fleece backed, 0.060 inch (60 mil) nominal thickness for combination fully adhered and ballasted application. The minimum thickness must not be less than minus 10 percent of the specified thickness value. EPDM membrane thickness specified is exclusive of backing material on the EPDM membrane. Principal polymer used in manufacture of the membrane sheet must be greater than 95 percent EPDM. Width and length of sheet must be maximum width attainable as recommended by the manufacturer to minimize field formed seams in the field of the roof.

1. Provide sheeting layer between board insulation and EPDM membrane if recommended by membrane manufacturer. Provide adhesive attachments (sheeting layer to top of insulation and membrane to top of sheeting layer) per membrane manufacturer instructions.

2. Seam Tape:

a. Double-sided synthetic rubber tape, minimum 0.03-inch-thick, minimum 3 inches wide. The roof membrane manufacturer must supply seam tape recommended by the manufacturer's printed data for forming watertight bond of EPDM sheet materials to each other for the application specified and conditions encountered.

Use cured EPDM membrane to the maximum extent recommended by the roof membrane manufacturer. Limit uncured flashing material to reinforcing inside and outside corners and angle changes in plane of membrane, and to flash scuppers, pourable sealer pockets, and other formed penetrations or unusually shaped conditions as recommended by the roof membrane manufacturer where the use of cured material is impractical.

8. Flashing Tape:

a. EPDM-backed synthetic rubber tape, minimum 6 inches wide as supplied by the roof membrane manufacturer and recommended by the manufacturer's printed data.
