Text1: The USDA, ARS, BARC has a requirement for a brand name or equal Ankom Technology XT15 Extractor, 120V 50/60 Hz tissue, biofluid and feed crude fat content analyzer. The estimated dollar value of this requirement is $18,799.00.
Text2: The proposed contractor for this requirement is Ankom Technology, 2052 O'Neil Road, Macedon, NY 14502

ANKOM TECHNOLOGY, INC. is the only company currently offering automated instrumentation for tissue, biofluid and feed/food total crude fat analysis as needed for full body/carcass composition studies in poultry. For more than 20 years of tissue analysis and body composition research, this lab has been using the traditional Association of Analytical Communities (A.O.A.C.) analysis international standardized organic solvent format to analyze biological samples for crude fat content. A.O.A.C. methods for the determination of the chemical composition of biological samples remains the only platform to consistently over time fully correlate across International Testing Laboratories and the only platform recognized for use as proscribed in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 21, Chapter I, Sub-chapter B, Section 101.9. The advantages of the ANKOM instrumentation are (1) continuity of process over time and full compatible data acquisition consistent with the past data, (2) lowest cost of analysis per sample, (3) elimination of costs incurred with disposal of large volumes of organic solvents and hazardous chemical waste, (4) advanced critical temperature extraction technology decreases the volume of needed solvent by 99% (1 ml vs. 100 ml) compared to traditional alternative methods of fat analysis, (5) of the volume of solvent used, more than 97% is recovered, cleaned and reusable by the process, (6) increased efficiency, precision and accuracy permits a decreased sample size making it possible to analyze more replicates of each sample in a shorter amount of time, (7) the system in fully automated eliminating the need for intensive man hours to tend to the instrument and (7) this lab has already validated for their purposes the full parallel AOAC Method Standard with this instrument’s output and redoing this for a different platform is an inefficient use of resources.

Only ANKOM offers tissue fat analysis not requiring caustic chemistry.
