SECTION B. CONTINUATION OF STANDARD FORM 1449
B.1. Contract Type
Firm Fixed-Price
B.2. Specifications/Salient Characteristics
B.2.1. Introduction
The Conte lab has a requirement to provide a microparticulate drum filter with backwash system. The equipment to be provided will include all the salient characteristics listed herein and all shipping and handling costs will be included in the quote. This solicitation does not include installation, as that will be performed by the lab’s staff.
B.2.2. Background
The Conte Lab is a research facility with two indoor aquariums designed for the rearing of fresh and saltwater fishes and conducting a wide variety of experiments. The process water for the tanks is derived from three sources:
the adjacent power canal, the municipal water supply and two fresh water artesian wells on the property. The water is treated for different levels of salinity and heated or cooled according to the specific need. The effluent discharge is combined in an underground concrete vault and pumped into a treatment shed. The effluent is filtered through a revolving drum filter and passes through a UV sterilization chamber before being discharged to the Connecticut River.
The existing drum filter was installed in 2007 and has reached the end of its service life. It is no longer manufactured and obtaining spare parts is difficult. A new drum filter is required to ensure continuity of service.
B.2.3. Scope of Work
The bid will include a new prepackaged drum filter including a liquid level controller, high pressure rinse system, sludge removal tray and control panel. The unit will be skid mounted to be easily positioned for installation and repairs. The unit will fit within the dimensions provided and will be completely assembled and ready for installation. The Conte Lab has a forklift to unload the unit from a box truck.
B.2.4. Applicable Documents
All quotes must include engineered drawings showing all the dimensions of the unit. The successful bidder will provide service and parts manuals in paper and digital form.
B.2.5. Technical Requirements
B.2.5.1. Drum filter and backwash system will be mounted on a skid which allows the entire unit to be installed and removed for service or replacement with a forklift. Fork pockets will be a minimum of 8” wide and 3” high.
B.2.5.2. Unit will be shipped as a “plug and play” system. In other words, no assembly will be required, only plumbing connections and electrical hookup will be needed to put the system online.
B.2.5.3. Unit will be powered by 240V, 3-phase power. All components will be wired to a control panel.
B.2.5.4. Unit must have the capacity to filter up to 200gpm of water which may include broken down fish feed, fish waste and silt with suspended mineral particles.
B.2.5.5. Unit will have 2 filter panels with a minimum area of 520 square inches and 250 square inches of submerged effective filter area. Filters opening will be minimum of 10 microns.
B.2.5.6. Unit will feature a minimum of four high pressure nozzles for backwashing filter.
B.2.5.7. Unit will have an enclosure that provides for easy access of filter for inspection or repairs.
B.2.6. Deliverables
