BACKGROUND:
The Fluid Metrology Group within the Sensor Science Division of the Physical Measurement Laboratory, in coordination with the NIST-on-a-chip program, conducts research on miniaturized, “lab on a chip” (LOC) technologies with embedded sensors. NIST is committed to leadership in the fabrication, design, physics, and testing of LOC systems in order to facilitate industrial needs to develop and test new products and to measure and control fluid processes. In support of this mission, the Fluid Metrology Group is developing devices and methods to improve measurements of mass flow, viscosity, pressure, and temperature in microfluidic chip-scale sensors.
The Group seeks a zoom microscope that can facilitate fabrication, measurement, and real-time visualization of fluid flow and microscale deformations within microfluidic devices containing deformable elements and sensors.
