About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for NASA Langley Research Center's procurement of specialized camera equipment for photon counting applications. The requirement is for a qCMOS (quantitative CMOS) camera system, specifically the Hamamatsu ORCA-Quest 2 Digital qCMOS Camera Kit or equal, along with an interface kit for development of novel laser-based measurements to support NASA missions.
The camera must meet stringent technical specifications including at least 9.4 megapixels at full resolution, readout noise of 0.43 electrons RMS or below at minimum 120 fps, capacity for up to 19,800 fps at reduced pixel count, dynamic range of at least 23,000:1, and high quantum efficiency at specific wavelengths (50% at 300nm, 85% at 460nm, 30% at 900nm). Additional requirements include external triggering capability, compact physical dimensions (120mm x 120mm x 160mm maximum, under 5 lbs), and standard 110V power requirements. The procurement includes two line items: the ORCA-QUEST2-KIT camera system and the CAMRA-1012-000-KIT interface kit with CoaXpress cables, each with a quantity of one. Delivery is required by September 30, 2025, with items to be assembled at the vendor site and delivered to NASA Langley Research Center.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements
Procurement of a qCMOS (quantitative CMOS) camera, Hamamatsu ORCA-Quest 2 Digital qCMOS Camera Kit (or Equal), for photon number resolving (i.e. photon counting) 2D imaging, including control software, for development of novel laser-based measurements to support NASA missions.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
NASA Langley currently has a need to purchase an ultra-sensitive camera that combines extremely low noise performance with a fast readout in order to perform photon number resolving imaging (or photon counting) with a 2D image sensor. This measurement strategy is enabled when the noise generated by the camera during the process of converting light into an electronic signal is lower than the signal generated by a single photon, which are the smallest unit of light.
The camera shall have the following specifications:
o Effective number of pixels of at least 9.4 megapixels at full resolution to enable high-resolution imaging.
o Readout noise of 0.43 electrons RMS or below for readout speeds of at least 120 frames per second at full resolution.
o Capacity to operate at reduced pixel count at frame rates up to 19,800 fps (for example with 4096x4 pixels pixels).
o Dynamic range of at least 23,000:1.
o Sensor with high quantum efficiency (QE) of at least 50% at 300 nm, 85% at 460 nm, and 30% at 900 nm.
o Capacity to be externally triggered for synchronization with laser systems, associated electronics, and other camera systems.
o Physical camera size no larger than 120 mm x 120 mm x 160 mm for measurements in confined environments and a weight of less than 5 lbs.
o Power Requirements: 110V, 60 Hz, single phase.
