About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for an Advanced Plant Imaging and Multi-omics Analysis project between the University of Florida and NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The project involves a Subject Matter Expert consultant who will conduct research on plant health monitoring using multi-omics analysis (transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics), advanced hyperspectral imaging, and machine learning techniques. The 12-month project is structured with three key deliverables: a kick-off meeting, an internal presentation of preliminary transcriptomic findings, and a final draft manuscript for journal publication.
The project timeline is segmented into four phases, with daily on-site collaboration required throughout. Key activities include participating in horticultural experiment designs, executing plant growth experiments in controlled chambers, collecting high-value image datasets, and analyzing data using machine learning and deep learning models. The budget follows an incremental payment plan with 50% paid at the first deliverable, 40% at the second, and 10% at the final deliverable. Relevant prior publications from Garcia et al. and Ruiz et al. are referenced to support the research approach.

Project: Advanced Plant Imaging, Multi-omics Analysis with AI – Machine Learning
Vendor: University of Florida Collaboration Partnership with NASA KSC UB-A Utilization and Life Sciences Office.
Scope of Work:
The University of Florida will form a collaboration partnership with the NASA KSC UB-A office and provide a faculty co-advisor and Post Doc Subject Matter Expert consultant.
The Subject Matter Expert, consultant, will have experience in multi-omics analysis (transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics), biological data analysis, statistical computing with software such as R and Python as well as the ability to integrate molecular biology and imaging tools like hyperspectral imaging to improve controlled environment crop health monitoring in an autonomous system.
The scope of work will require the Subject Matter Expert, consultant, to work both independently and as a member of a cross-disciplinary team at the J.F. Kennedy Space Center and will be supervised by NASA project scientists and the UF co-advisor. The work will include participating in horticultural experiment designs, execution of plant growth experiments in environmentally controlled growth chambers, exacting control of variables and reproducibility while using an Advanced plant hyperspectral imaging system to monitor the plants during their growth cycle and collect high-value raw image datasets. These datasets will be analyzed using traditional machine learning and/or Deep Learning models for plant stress detection responses and compared against biological indicators as determined by multi-omics analysis.
The ability to analyze and synthesize data, incorporate bioinformatics and prepare written manuscripts leading to journal publication is essential.
