About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details NASA Langley Research Center's requirement for an automated femtosecond laser Optical Parametric Amplifier (OPA) system. The OPA system must be compatible with existing Spectra-Physics Solstice and Solstice Ace laser systems and provide tunable output in ultraviolet-visible wavelengths from 200 to 800 nm. Specific technical requirements include an input wavelength of 800 nm, pulse energy up to 4 mJ/pulse, pulse width of 60-100 fs, integrated control software, and precise energy output specifications for various wavelength generations.

The system must meet stringent performance criteria, including pulse duration not exceeding 150 fs, beam divergence less than 1.5x the diffraction limit, energy stability of 1% rms, pulse-to-pulse stability of 1%, and 1 kHz operation for time-resolved measurements. The vendor will assemble the items at their site and deliver to NASA Langley Research Center, with a delivery deadline of December 2025. The procurement is identified as a sole source requirement, suggesting a specific vendor has been preselected for this specialized scientific equipment.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements Procurement of an automated femtosecond laser Optical Parametric Amplifier

(OPA) system for tunable output in the ultraviolet-visible wavelengths that can be directly integrated, including control software, with a Spectra-Physics Solstice or Solstice Ace.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

NASA Langley currently has two operational femtosecond laser systems from Spectra-Physics (Solstice and Solstice Ace). Both laser systems generate 800 nm laser light between 60-100 fs. We wish to upgrade one of these laser system with an automated femtosecond laser Optical Parametric Amplifier (OPA) for wavelength tuning in the ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) wavelengths.

The OPA shall have the following specifications:

o Allow an input wavelength of 800 nm, a pulse energy of up to 4 mJ/pulse, and a pulse width of 60-100 fs.

o Capable of housing and controlling non-linear crystals to allow access to UV-VIS wavelengths from 200 to 800 nm.

o Capability to be fully intergraded with the Control software in a manner that is compatible with the Solstice and Solstice Ace laser systems, including integrated look-up table for non-linear crystal positions when changing wavelength.

o When pumped with 4 mJ of input energy at 800 nm, the following energy is required for the OPA system:

Second Harmonic of OPA Signal (580–800): >320 μJ Sum Frequency Generation of OPA Idler (533–600): >200 μJ Sum Frequency Generation of OPA Signal (475–533): >280 μJ Fourth Harmonic of OPA Idler (400-480 nm): > 60μJ Fourth Harmonic of OPA Signal (290-400 nm): > 60μJ Second Harmonic after Sum Frequency Generation of OPA Signal (240-

295 nm): > 28 μJ Second Harmonic after Sum Frequency Generation of OPA Idler (200-240 nm): > 12 μJ o Integrated compensator optic for beam deviation and residual laser beam separation and dumping.

o Pulse duration not to exceed 150 fs for efficient atomic/molecular excitation and to freeze unsteady flow.

o Beam divergence < 1.5x (diffraction limit) to ensure good beam quality over long propagation distances for use at large-scale NASA facilities.

o Energy stability of 1% rms and pulse-to-pulse stability of 1%.

o 1 kHz operation required for time-resolved measurements for unsteady laminar flows and to allow for sufficient statistics to be acquired for turbulent flows.

o Power Requirements: 110V, 60 Hz, single phase.

3. Place of Performance Items assembled at site of vendor and delivered to NASA Langley Research Center.

4. Period of Performance Delivery date by December 2025.
