About this file

This Statement of Work details the requirements for procuring a Thermo Scientific 51i HT Total Hydrocarbon Analyzer for NASA's Engine Research Building combustion testing facilities. The analyzer will be used for emissions analysis and Total Hydrocarbons (THC) measurement as part of combustion research.

The document justifies the sole-source procurement by explaining that Code LTC has standardized on Thermo Scientific analyzers across their facilities due to reliability and emissions standards compliance. The new unit will upgrade a facility that currently lacks this specific analyzer, maintaining uniformity across gas benches to reduce maintenance and training costs. The organization already has trained personnel and spare parts for this model, making it a cost-effective choice that will provide reliable THC data measurement capabilities for years to come.

Statement of Work—Thermo Scientific 51i HT Total Hydrocarbon Analyzer

Emissions analysis is a crucial part of testing in combustion research facilities. There are several facilities in the Engine Research Building that depend upon their gas bench systems to take emissions data. These systems are made up of different types of analyzers that are specific to the chemicals of interest. Total Hydrocarbons (THC) is an important component in the study of combustion. Code LTC has adopted Thermo Scientific’s analyzers as the new standard for taking THC data for all combustion testing facilities since they are reliable and follow certain emissions standards. We are in the process of upgrading older THC analyzers with this unit.

This analyzer will be installed in a facility that does not yet have a Thermo Scientific THC analyzer and will be a facility upgrade. Since Thermo Scientific’s 51i HT THC analyzers are currently being used to measure THC in some of our other combustion facilities, it is in our best interest to maintain uniformity across all gas benches to reduce maintenance and training costs. This is a unit personnel are already familiar with and have spare parts for. By purchasing this THC analyzer, combustion test facilities in the Engine Research Building will benefit from having reliable THC data for many years.
