About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a federal contract opportunity related to the development of additive manufacturing processes for multilayer wearable electronics circuits.
The key objectives of the SOW are to: develop processes for additive fabrication of 5-layer multilayer circuits with integrated components, quantify the process-structure-performance-reliability interactions, and understand the reliability of the circuits under stresses of daily motion. The contractor shall design the circuits, fabricate the 5-layer sensor circuit boards, measure the life under dynamic flexure and flex-to-install testing, and identify failure mechanisms and reliability distributions. The deliverables include the optimized designs and process recipes, 6 printed devices for each use case, and a summary report. The period of performance is 1 year starting from the contract signed date.
The related federal contract opportunity is a sole source procurement by NASA/NSSC for the "Multilayer Additive Circuits Process and Reliability for Wearable Space Applications." The NAICS code is 611310, and the government intends to acquire commercial items and services. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities by 11/26/2024.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements NASA MSFC is seeking the development of process-structure-performance-reliability interactions for additively printed wearable electronics. The requirement is for process recipe development for 5-layer circuits with assembled surface mount devices (SMDs), flex testing of the circuits, and collection and analysis of the data.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs
The contractor shall perform the following duties:
Objectives
Develop processes for additive fabrication of 5-layer multilayer circuits with integrated components. Circuits to be direct ink write printed via nScrypt on PET substrate.
Quantify the process-structure-performance-reliability interactions.
Understand the reliability of stresses of daily motion, including dynamic flexing and flex-to-install under two use cases: room temperature and human body temperature.
Identify the use cases relevant to stresses of daily motion.
Identify the failure mechanisms and reliability distributions for reliability.
Project Tasks
Design circuits and sensors to meet specified requirements.
Fabricate 5-layer sensor circuit board printed on flexible PET substrate. Prints or flexible boards must include SMT components and sensors that are SMT or printed.
Measure the life in dynamic-flexure and flex-to-install for room and body temperature.
Project Threshold: Demonstrate circuits with 2-inch radius of curvature for 300 dynamic flexure cycles. Data must include testing from at least 3 devices.
Project Goal: Demonstrate circuits with 1-inch radius of curvature for 300 dynamic flexure cycles. Stretch goal understand the design margin. Data must include testing from at least 3 devices.
Demonstrate circuit stability over 168-hours (1-week) of body temperature exposure.
Develop a use-profile for number of actuations per day and angle of actuation.
Identify use life of the part for optimized process recipes.
Deliverables
Optimized designs and nScrypt process recipes for circuit fabrication.
Ship ink and components to MSFC to fabricate the 6 devices on Advanced Toolplate
Nscrypt printer.
3 devices printed at Auburn for each use case. Total: 6 devices.
Testing of the Auburn printed devices. Total: 6 devices.
3 devices printed at MSFC for each use case and delivered to Auburn for testing.
