About this file

This document is a Statement of Work for a federal procurement to purchase a high-fidelity research spectroscopic instrument capable of measuring in situ concentrations of specified trace gas chemicals in the atmosphere. The vendor shall provide a single unit of the instrument, which must use spectroscopic absorption of mid-infrared light and be capable of temporally resolved measurements up to 10 Hz. The instrument must be able to operate in aircraft cabin environments and provide specified measurement precisions for key gas species including CO2, N2O, H2O, CO, CH4, and OCS. The vendor shall provide manuals, documentation, shipping, and initial remote installation/training services. This procurement is associated with the Multicompound Gas Analyzer solicitation (80NSSC25885416Q) issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

This procurement is to purchase a high-fidelity research spectroscopic instrument capable of measuring in situ concentrations of specified trace gas chemicals in the atmosphere.

The results of the procurement shall be a new spectroscopic instrument provided to NASA for use in laboratory and airborne scientific field campaigns.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

Vendor shall provide a trace gas sensing spectroscopic instrument in a single unit, quantity 1, with the following characteristics:

The instrument shall use as its means of detection spectroscopic absorption of mid-infrared light, defined as wavelengths between 3-10 um.

The instrument shall be capable of providing measurements which are temporally resolved to 10 Hz or faster.

The instrument shall be designed with a sampling pressure of 1 bar to 800 mbar or lower.

The instrument shall be in the form factor of a standard 19” instrument rack chassis with a height no greater than 10.5” (6U).

The instrument shall be operable in aircraft cabin environments between 0 – 10000 ft cabin altitude (700 – 1013 mbar).

The instrument shall be capable of reporting concentration of mixtures of the following gas species in air at or better than the precisions stated:

Chemical Species Precision (1σ, 1 sec measurement)

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) 700 ppb Nitrous Oxide (N2O) 0.5 ppb Water Vapor (H2O) 20 ppm

Carbon Monoxide (CO) 0.4 ppb Methane (CH4) 1 ppb

Carbonyl Sulfide (OCS) 0.05 ppb

Item 2: Vendor shall provide any manuals or documentation necessary for operation, care, and maintenance of said instrument.

Item 3: Vendor shall prepay cost of shipping and any other associated fees with delivery to NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA

Item 3: Vendor shall provide an initial remote installation/training service to facilitate issues with installation and operation of the new instrument.
