About this file

This document is a Recommendation and Determination to Solicit from One Source or Brand Name document for a federal contract opportunity. The NASA Shared Services Center is recommending negotiating a sole source contract with Xometry to provide mechanical hardware for 4 assemblies of the MAGIC project. The total estimated cost is undisclosed, with an estimated period of performance of 36 business days.

The key reasons provided for the sole source justification are that Xometry has been used previously for this project and has demonstrated the best value in terms of quick turnaround, quality, and ability to accommodate the complex components with threaded inserts. Other vendors were unwilling to work with these specific requirements. The impact of using another vendor would be increased risk and schedule delays, as NASA would need to repeat the process of finding a new vendor capable of the required work.

NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION

NASA SHARED SERVICES CENTER

RECOMMENDATION AND DETERMINATION TO SOLICIT FROM ONE SOURCE

OR BRAND NAME

PICK ONE

Sole Source:

☒I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate with Xometry only for Mechanical hardware for 4 assemblies of MAGIC. The total estimated cost of this effort is and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 36 business days.

OR

Brand Name Justification:

☐I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate with only with vendors who can provide the subject band name from Manufacture Name for Enter Supply or Service to be procured. The total estimated cost of this effort is Enter Dollar amount and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is Date.

This recommendation is for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably available from only one source/only one manufacture. Competition is impractical for the following reasons (please answer the questions below):

1. What are the reasons for soliciting only the suggested source/suggested brand name? Please provide the unique characteristics of the items or services along with the supporting rationale and the market research performed to substantiate your reason for the suggested source/brand name.

Xometry has been used in the past to manufacture hardware for this project. For their services offered, quick turn around time, and the quality of the products received, Xometry has demonstrated the best value for this fabricated hardware. It has already been discussed with the company how to make the components with the threaded inserts that are included in some of the parts. Other vendors were unwilling to accommodate the complex components that included threaded inserts that are specified out in the part drawings. It would cost the project extra time and money to find another company willing to work with our specific complex needs.

2. What is the impact to the government if another vendor/brand is used? Include any dollar, schedule, or compatibility impacts if possible.

The impact to the government would be increased risk and delayed schedule. Using a different vendor would result in NASA having to repeat in finding a new vendor that is able to machine the complex mechanical components and accommodate the threaded inserts that are in some of the components.
