About this file
This document is a Brand Name Justification (BNJ) for the acquisition of hermetic electrical connectors for a prototype converter. The BNJ recommends that NASA negotiate solely with Glenair Inc. as the vendor, as the prototype was designed specifically for Glenair connectors and using another brand would require significant re-engineering and additional government costs and delays. The total estimated cost is undisclosed, with a 5-week period of performance. The procurement is being conducted under Solicitation Number 80NSSC24876505Q by the NASA Shared Services Center.

NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION
NASA SHARED SERVICES CENTER
RECOMMENDATION AND DETERMINATION TO SOLICIT FROM ONE SOURCE
OR BRAND NAME
OR
Brand Name Justification:
I recommend that NASA, NASA Shared Services Center negotiate with only with vendors who can provide the subject band name from Glenair Inc for Hermetic electrical connectors for prototype converter.
The total estimated cost of this effort is and the estimated period of performance or lead-time for delivery is 5 Weeks ARO.
This recommendation is for the acquisition of supplies or services determined to be reasonably available from only one source/only one manufacture. Competition is impractical for the following reasons (please answer the questions below):
1. What are the reasons for soliciting only the suggested source/suggested brand name? Please provide the unique characteristics of the items or services along with the supporting rationale and the market research performed to substantiate your reason for the suggested source/brand name.
During the design phase of the project, a market survey was conducted which concluded that Glenair was the most responsive vendor which could provide the connectors which meet our requirements. Since then the prototype was designed to fit the specific Glenair connectors called for in the Statement of Work. If Glenair is not used, it would require the project to redesign the prototype to fit another brand of connectors, which would be an inefficient use of government effort and money.
2. What is the impact to the government if another vendor/brand is used? Include any dollar, schedule, or compatibility impacts if possible.
Increased cost and delayed schedules. Redesigning the prototype to be compatible with another vendor’s connectors (if there are any which exist that meets our requirements) would necessitate considerable additional engineering time.
