About this file

This statement of work outlines preventative maintenance services required for the Arc-Heated Scramjet Test Facility motor. The contractor will be expected to obtain replacement sleeve bearings and seals for an ABB 1500-HP AC induction motor used in the facility's pumphouse. Additional tasks include decoupling the motor from the water pump if needed, disassembling and inspecting components, installing the new bearings and seals, reassembling the motor, performing operational tests, and reconnecting the motor to the pump to verify proper operation. Upon completion, the contractor must provide a comprehensive report detailing findings and recommendations. The related federal contract opportunity is a special notice from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Shared Services Center seeking these maintenance services for the AHSTF motor as outlined in the statement of work.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1.0 Introduction/Background: The Arc-Heated Scramjet Test Facility (AHSTF) is used by NASA and DoD to investigate the aerodynamic, aerothermodynamic, and performance characteristics of propulsion systems for vehicles travelling in the hypersonic speed regime (Mach > 5). To continue support of this nationally critical research, the AHSTF needs to properly maintain its deionized water cooling pump motor.

During a recent servicing, it was noted that the motor, installed in 1999, requires the replacement of sleeve bearings that are past end-of-life.

2.0 Scope of Work: Remove existing sleeve bearings and replace with new bearings for the ABB 1500-HP AC Induction Motor, SN 4562812, located in the AHSTF pumphouse.

The new bearings will supplied by the Contractor.

3.0 Objectives: The objective is to provide preventative maintenance in the form of bearing replacements to avoid catastrophic failure of a multi-million dollar piece of equipment.

4.0 Description of the Work/Contractor Tasks:

In general, it is expected that the Contractor will:

1. Obtain the proper sleeve bearings, seals, and associated parts necessary to perform a sleeve bearing replacement on an ABB 1500-HP AC Induction Motor.

2. Mobilize to the worksite (LaRC, B1247B, Room 120) and perform all work at worksite. This includes taking all safety training and other training required for LaRC access.

3. Decouple motor from water pump if necessary.

4. Remove motor components necessary to gain access to bearings.

5. Disassemble bearings and inspect seals.

6. Install new bearings; replace seals as necessary.

7. Verify bearing mechanical center.

8. Reinstall all components necessary for motor operation.

9. Run motor as required to establish shaft electrical center.

10. Verify operational temperature is within limits.

11. Reconnect motor to pump and run under load to verify proper operation.

During the onsite work, Contractor will maintain daily communications with the AHSTF Facility Manager and/or Scramjet Facility Coordinator.

5.0 Deliverables:

The Contractor will provide all parts, soft goods, and consumables required to perform Section 4.0 above. Sleeve bearings provided shall be of original equipment manufacture.

Specifically, an ABB 3AFP68077834 DE Sleeve Bearing and an ABB 3AFP9874545 ODE Sleeve Bearing. Upon completion of work, the Contractor will provide a full comprehensive report with recommendations and findings.

Other Considerations:

Applicable Documents/Background: None

Milestones: Completion of work.

Government-furnished property: None

Government-furnished information:

The government shall provide facility drawings upon Contractor request. AHSTF personnel, including those required to safe the system, shall be available to support the Contractor during the course of the work.
