About this file

This statement of work outlines the technical requirements for a mechanical test alignment system to be used by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Glenn Research Center. The system must include an MTS alignment system package with data acquisition and Windows software, an alignment software license, and both round and flat strain-gaged specimen options. The technical requirements specify part numbers, specifications, and certifications for these components to ensure the system can efficiently implement load frame alignment and verify bending strains. The related federal contract opportunity is a special notice seeking proposals for this mechanical test alignment system being procured by NASA's Shared Services Center to support testing at the Glenn Research Center.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Mechanical Test Alignment System

Specifications and Requirements

NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) is interested in a Mechanical Test Alignment system to be used for alignment of MTS mechanical testing frames.

Specifically, the Alignment system must meet the minimum requirements.

1. MTS Alignment System:

1.1. Alignment System Package; Series 709, Win10, 115V US Plug, Calibrated

a) Efficient, easy-to-implement load frame alignment solution to help you drive test machine variability out of the material testing equation. The turnkey MTS Alignment

Solution includes the necessary data acquisition and conditioning functionality required to achieve regular, proper material test systems. The MTS Alignment

Solution is compatible with all MTS servohydraulic load frames.

b) Includes 709 Alignment system data acquisition/conditioning assembly

c) Windows 7/10 compatible, requires a computer with a dedicated RJ45 Ethernet connector and CD drive

d) CE compliant

e) Intuitive Alignment Wizard guides user through full sequence of concentric and angular adjustments

f) Acquires, analyzes, and displays bending strains for alignment and bending strain verification.

g) Includes metrology certification

h) PN: 58570906

i) Includes Product Manual(s): 100111028, 100113135

1.2. Alignment Software License; Series 709:

a) Working in concert with the alignment solution’s data acquisition/conditioning unit, Model 709.20E Alignment Software acquires and analyzes data on the bending strain occurring within the strain-gaged specimen and displays it graphically. Its intuitive interface enables users to accurately verify how much bending strain is occurring, and if necessary, the easy-to-use “Alignment Wizard” guides them through the sequence of Model 609 angular and concentric adjustments needed to achieve test system alignment. Continual scanning of bending strains allows verification and alignment during load cycling. When the alignment procedure is finished, the software can generate an Excel report to certify test system alignment. The software can also accept calibrated load signals from the test system controller for generating reports on bending strain at various axial load levels.

b) Intuitive Alignment Wizard guides user through full sequence of concentric and angular adjustments

c) Acquires, analyzes, and displays bending strains for alignment and bending strain verification.

d) PN: 100554833

1.3. Strain-Gaged Specimen; Series 709, Round, 0.5 in diameter:

a) Each alignment specimen features 12 strain gages, optimal for correcting both concentric and angular test system misalignment. Strain gages are bonded to the alignment specimen with oven-cured epoxy for long life and are covered to prevent damage from handling. Alignment specimens are machined from 4340 steel, and heat treated to safely accommodate stresses up to 413 MPa (60,000 psi). The MTS

Alignment Solution can also utilize customer-provided 4, 6, 8, and 9 gage specimens.

b) PN: 56651701

1.4. Strain-Gaged Specimen; Series 709, Flat, 6.35 mm (0.25 in) thick:

a) Each alignment specimen features 12 strain gages, optimal for correcting both concentric and angular test system misalignment. Strain gages are bonded to the alignment specimen with oven-cured epoxy for long life and are covered to prevent damage from handling. Alignment specimens are machined from 4340 steel, and heat treated to safely accommodate stresses up to 413 MPa (60,000 psi). The MTS

Alignment Solution can also utilize customer-provided 4, 6, 8, and 9 gage specimens.

c) PN: 56651702
