About this file

This document outlines technical specifications for an optical telescope and related federal contract opportunity. The specifications call for an off-axis telescope design with a diffraction-limited optical design, mirror flatness of 1/10 wave or better at 632 nm, high reflectivity at 1977 nm, 25x magnification, mirror coatings to withstand 1600 W/square cm average power and 0.3J/square cm single pulse energy. Additional requirements include a 4-mm input aperture, adjustable focus via secondary mirror translation, mounting holes for an optical table, use in an air-conditioned lab, a dust cover, and a 10-day lead time. The related federal contract opportunity from NASA's Shared Services Center seeks this optical telescope for a Doppler lidar system under solicitation number 80NSSC23842717Q.

Optical Telescope Requirements

There is a need for a telescope for our Doppler lidar system. The minimum requirements for the telescope are as follows:

(1) Off-axis configuration such as Dall-Kirkham design

(2) Diffraction-limited optical design

(3) Surface figure flatness of both mirrors of 1/10 peak-to-valley wave or better at 632 nm.

(4) High reflectivity of mirrors at 1977 nm

(5) Magnification of 25X

(6) Mirror coatings to tolerate without damage a 1600 W/square centimeter for average power and 0.3J/square centimeter for single pulse energy (pulse width 500ns)

(7) Input aperture to accommodate 4-mm 1/e2 diameter beam

(8) Adjustable focus by manual translation of secondary mirror (focus is necessary to create a collimated output from a diverging laser beam input)

(9) Mounting holes on bottom to accommodate mounting to an optical table

(10) To be used in air-conditioned laboratory environment.

(11) Cover for protection from dust

(12) Lead Time 10 Days
