About this file
This statement of work outlines requirements for resurfacing an optical flat mirror for NASA. The contractor shall resurface a 600mm diameter Zerodur optical flat with a clear aperture of 550mm, achieving a front surface figure of 10nm RMS or better over any 300mm sub-aperture. The front surface shall also have a texture of 10 angstroms RMS and meet scratch/dig specifications. The contractor must perform 3-flat testing, provide phase maps and sub-aperture analyses to NASA, and coat the front surface with protected silver. Final testing requires the front surface maintain 10nm RMS flatness over any 300mm sub-aperture. The contractor must deliver the resurfaced mirror within 18 weeks to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. This supports the related federal contract opportunity for NASA to re-figure an auto-collimating flat mirror under solicitation number 80NSSC23839734Q.

STATEMENT OF WORK
1. Objective/Requirements NASA plans to provide a set of space telescopes for the LISA Mission. To this end, NASA GSFC is producing prototype telescopes, and will perform precision optical metrology on these telescopes as part of the technology development effort. A part of this testing requires high quality flat mirrors, like auto-collimating flats, and recently NASA GSFC procured such a mirror. Subsequently, modeling and analysis of the planned metrology test procedures revealed that a higher quality mirror surface would reduce the risk of being able to meet testing requirements, and so re-surfacing of the mirror is needed to meet these stricter specifications.
2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs The contractor shall perform the following duties:
• Resurface of a Zerodur (Expansion class 1) optical flat
Diameter: 600 mm (as-is) Thickness: 100 mm (as-is) Clear aperture (CA) ≥ 550 mm (best efforts for 570 mm) Standard Schott edge finish (as-is) Edge chamfers as-is Edge chips must be outside of the CA and fully terminated Rear surface finish: fine ground with loose grit abrasive (as-is) Front surface figure ≤ 10 nm rms (best efforts for ≥ 4 nm rms) over any 300 mm sub-aperture within the CA; multiple overlapping zones shall be inspected before coating and shared with NASA for approval (pre-coat review) Front surface texture ≤ 10 angstroms rms within CA (measured prior to coating) Front surface scratch/dig: 60/40 per MIL-PRF-13830B within CA
• 3-flat testing of the optical surface over the central 570 mm aperture Full calibrated contour phase map to be provided to NASA Sub-aperture analysis over 300 mm sub-apertures shall be performed and provided to
NASA
• Coating and final testing Front surface coating: Protected Ag for an R_average > 95% from 1000 nm to 1100 nm Coating CA ≥ 580 mm Final testing of front surface flatness ≥10 nm rms over any 300 mm sub-aperture within CA
• Packaging and shipping: optic shall be wrapped with lint free tissue and either crated or shipped in case with custom foam inserts to:
