STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Objective/Requirements

The Multifunctional Sorbent Device (MultiSORB) project makes adsorbent lattice with embedded heaters for carbon dioxide removal and compression. The heaters must operate a 200˚C to remove carbon dioxide and be able to operate in a life support environment. Water heat pipes are ideal to use, but most COTs devices cannot operate at required temperature. Therefore, these must be custom made using Titanium material to prevent corrosion in a humid environment.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

As current heap pipes with the specification below are not available commercially, contractor will custom build these devices based on discussion between the ARC and contractor personnel.

contractor component shall manufacture two repeats of two three-dimensional vapor chamber (3DVC) designs for NASA Ames Research Center (ARC). The specifications for the builds are listed below. The titanium wall will provide the chemical resistance and structural integrity needed. Using water as a working fluid is non-hazardous in a life support operating environment. ARC requires the proof-of-concepts pieces at the specified dimensions as it fits within the test set-up at ARC.

Titanium-water system Must operate between 20-200oC, with a ≥200oC source Proof-of-concept geometry of a planar vapor chamber; 6” in length by 1.5” in width Deliver four 3DVC prototypes (Work Product) Deliver a technical report.

3. Place of Performance Ames Research Center

4. Period of Performance April 1, 2023 to May 31, 2023
