About this file

This document provides guidance on submitting Source Approval Requests (SARs) for federal supply classifications. It addresses when SARs should be directly submitted to a contract buyer noted in an open solicitation, versus sending to DLA Aviation for items without an open solicitation. SARs will not be considered for items already designated as fully competitive. Submitters are advised to review estimated forecasting requirements using the Supplier Requirements Visibility Application to ensure a SAR will be cost-effective due to demand. Information on accessing the Federal Logistics Information System is also provided to determine which military services utilize an item and approved sources. The review process for a SAR is outlined as taking up to 180 days, with formal notification provided thereafter regarding the results. Questions may be directed to the DLA Aviation SAR analyst.
