About this file
This document appears to be a technical description of the salient characteristics for a Fuse 1+ 30W Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printer as part of a federal contract opportunity. The key details include:
The SLS 3D printer must have the capability to fabricate parts from thermoplastic powders including polyamides, thermoplastic urethanes, and polypropylene, with a build volume of at least 6.5 x 6.5 x 11.8 inches and a layer thickness of 110 microns. It uses a 30W laser with a 200-micron spot size and includes an interactive touchscreen interface. The system must include a post-processing station for part depowdering, automated powder reclamation, mixing, and automated media blasting for cleaning. The system dimensions cannot exceed specific maximums for the printer, post-processing, and media blasting equipment. The opportunity is solicitation SPMYM224Q2410 from the Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime division.

Fuse 1+ 30W SLS Polymer 3D Printer Salient Characteristics
- Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D Printer with capability to fabricate parts from thermoplastic powders, including Polyamides (PA) AKA Nylon, Thermoplastic Urethanes (TPUs), and Polypropylenes (PP), allowing both individual parts and batch production to be printed without rigid support structures.
- SLS 3D Printer is a Class 1 Laser product, with accessible radiation within Class 1 limits, to create a safe operating environment surrounding the system.
- Capability to produce parts in a build volume with dimensions of at least 6.5 x 6.5 x
11.8 inches (xyz).
- Capability to produce parts with a layer thickness (z-resolution) of 110 microns (0.110mm).
- Capability to produce parts using a laser rated for 30W power, with a spot size of 200 microns or less.
- Capability to produce parts with a powder refresh rate between 30%-50% (able to print with up to 70% reused powder), allowing for near-zero waste production.
- SLS 3D Printer includes an interactive touch screen with proactive maintenance alerts, operator pre-print checklist, machine status alerts, and live video feed to the print enclosure area.
- SLS 3D Printer must include the ability, but not requirement, to incorporate external inert gas supply to maintain an oxygen-free printing environment, which reduces powder oxidation, enhances the mechanical properties of printed materials, and improves the refresh rate for more economical re-use of unsintered powder.
- SLS 3D Printer system must use a laser-based scanning process and must not require a binding agent or use voxel-based material jetting. Powder-only printing makes print job material usage and cost estimates much simpler and more accurate.
- SLS 3D Printer uses Surface Armor sintering technology to reduce printed part distortion and prevent surface blemishes.
- SLS 3D Printer Powder hopper must include agitation to avoid clumping of powder and improve dosing consistency on each layer of printing.
- Ability to print with thermoplastic powders, including Nylon 12, Glass-filled Nylon 12, Nylon 11, Carbon fiber-filled, Nylon 11, PolyPropylene, and TPU, with OEM-validated print process settings, to ensure safe, consistent printing results. x
- SLS 3D Printer intake and exhaust are media-filtered, and should vent freely to the room atmosphere; dedicated ventilation infrastructure shall not be required.
- Printer and Post-Processing station must use standard 120V power supply
- Stand-alone software and hardware printing capability - system does not require active internet connection to print.
- Print jobs can be uploaded directly, offline, by USB cable or Ethernet cable.
- System uses free software to operate and prepare print jobs, no paid license or yearly fee required.
- Must include Post-Processing station that includes compatible build chamber cooling monitoring, printed part depowdering station, automated powder reclamation, and powder mixing capability in a single machine.
- Post-processing station must include HEPA filter and negative pressure system to maintain a clean workstation and surrounding area during depowdering and dosing operation.
- Package includes auxiliary vacuum with static dissipative components that is grounded and bonded (e.g., a NFPA 652 compliant vacuum)
- System must include an automated media blasting, tumbling, polishing equipment specific to the ecosystem for cleaning powder off of parts in a hands-off workflow.
Automated media blaster system must include passive filtration to preserve longer life of media reusability, and in-line ionization to make parts safe to handle without
PPE, and must be sealed to prevent contamination of the surrounding environment during operation.
- The system must fit into a compact footprint for sufficient working room in the widest variety of candidate spaces.
• SLS 3D Printer must not exceed maximum physical dimensions of 27 x 26 x 66 inches (W x D x H), and must not exceed overall footprint dimensions (including service access clearances) of 59 x 50 x 66 inches (W x D x H)
• Post-processing/powder reclamation station, must not exceed maximum physical dimensions of 40 x 24 x 75 inches (W x D x H), and must not exceed overall footprint dimensions (including service access clearances) of 84 x 56 x 86 inches (W x D x H)
• Automated media blasting station must not exceed maximum physical dimensions of 39 x 30 x 69 inches (W x D x H), and must not exceed overall footprint dimensions (including service access clearances) of 59 x 60 x 79 inches (W x D x H)
