About this file
This salient characteristics sheet describes gym equipment required by the 121st Fighter Squadron at Headquarters District Washington. The new gym equipment will replace existing equipment in a 34' x 19' 4" gym and enable simultaneous exercises of multiple muscle groups, including those involved in G-strain maneuver training. Specifically, a powerlifting rack is requested that allows bench presses, squats, shoulder presses, and cleans and jerks, and connects to a cable attachment for supplementary exercises. Additional requirements include three incline-adjustable weightlifting benches, bumper plates that can be dropped from five feet, medicine balls, a hamstring roller, and step-up blocks. The purpose of the new equipment is to support pilots' physical training and conditioning under the USAF's Optimizing the Human Weapon System program.
The related pre-solicitation federal contract opportunity was issued by the Department of the Air Force Headquarters District Washington for gym equipment meeting the specifications in the salient characteristics sheet.

Salient Characteristics Sheet
Describe the requested item(s) in salient terms:
Physical characteristics = New gym equipment to replace existing equipment in 121 FS
OHWS gym, dimensions 34’ x 19’ 4”. The current gym equipment does not allow pilots to adequately train all muscle groups involved in the G-strain maneuver and limits pilots to one movement at a time.
Essential Characteristics = The gym equipment will be comprised of one powerlifting rack that enables power lifts (bench press, squat, shoulder press, clean and jerk) and have the capability to connect a cable attachment to the side for supplementary exercises (back extension, shoulder extension and core exercises). Multiple stand-alone racks or wall mounted cable machines are not acceptable due to the limited size of the gym they will be going into. The rack will be made of at least 11-gauge steel with corner post dimensions of at least 3” x 3”. Minimum overall rack dimensions: 47” wide, 62” long, 90” tall. The gym also requires three new weightlifting benches that are incline adjustable. The gym equipment will also include bumper plates that are capable of being dropped from a height of approximately five feet, as well as medicine balls, a hamstring roller and step-up blocks to exercise the abdominal and hamstring muscles.
Functions to be performed = The new gym equipment will support and improve pilots’ physical training and conditioning as part of the USAF’s Optimizing the Human Weapon System
(OHWS) program. The gym equipment will enable simultaneous exercises of multiple muscle groups and permit training the full spectrum of abdominal and leg muscles associated with the
G-strain maneuver.
