VOA GC/MS System Specifications
Specifications for the Autosampler/Purge and Trap for VOA analysis
• Single platform system autosampler with built-in purge and trap for all water and soil matrices including drinking water and wastewater
• Capable of sampling low level and high level soil samples
• Chiller tray for samples
• Sample heater
• 40mL VOA vial compatible
• Automated standard spiking capabilities
Specifications for the gas chromatograph (GC)
Column Oven:
• accommodate up to two 105m × 0.530mm id capillary columns
• have an operating temperature range of
Ambient temperature: 4°C to 450°C
• have a temperature setpoint resolution of at least 0.1°C
• support 20 oven ramps with 21 plateaus and allow for negative ramps
GC Oven Ramp Rates:

GC Inlet:
• Split/splitless capillary inlet
• The inlet must be compatible with all capillary columns (50μm to 530μm)

• Maximum temperature of 400°C
• Electronic septum purge flow control
• Compatible with Merlin Microseal septum
• Total flow setting range:
0 to 200 mL/min N2 0 to 1,250 mL/min H2 or He
• have an easy to use inlet sealing system
• EPC pressure range (psig): 0 to 100psig
Electronic Pneumatics Control (EPC):
• compensate for barometric pressure and ambient temperature changes
• have pressure setpoints adjustable by increments of 0.001psi, with typical control ±0.001 for the range 0.000 to 99.999psi; ±0.01psi for the range 100.00 to 150.00psi
• have user selectable pressure units as psi, kPa, or bar
• allow for at least three pressure/flow ramps
• allow carrier gas settings for He, H2, N2, and argon/methane
• provide flow or pressure setpoints for each inlet or detector parameter using both the GC and computer software
• have a constant flow control mechanism
• Split/splitless inlet flow sensors for the control of split ratio
• Pressure sensors:

Complementary GC Capabilities:
Helium Conservation Module:
• A device for GC/MS that allows you to use helium for your GC runs, and switches to an alternate gas (such as nitrogen) when your GC is idle.
Specifications for the Mass Selective Detector (MSD)
• Inert electron impact (EI) ion source
• Mass limit of at least 1050amu
• A scan rate to at least 12,500u/sec
• Turbopump vacuum system
• Source temperature limit of at least 350°C
• Analyzer temperatures up to 200°C
• Automatic tuning - must be able to meet the BFB tuning criteria listed in US EPA Methods
Computer that includes software to control the GC/MS intrument
The computer should include at least a 19 inch flat screen monitor and must use Window 7 Professional operation software. There must software that allows control of the autosampler/purge and trap, GC, and MSD from the computer. Moreover the software must be able to collect the data produced by the MSD. The aforementioned data must be capable of being processed using both the Agilent ChemStation and Agilent MassHunter Workstation software. The inclusion of a NIST mass spectral library is desirable.
