REQUIREMENTS & SPECIFICATIONS DOCUMENT
Pulsed IV System
Requesting Lab/Division/Group – Communications Technology Laboratory, Radio Frequency Technology Division, High-Speed Measurements Group.
Statement of Need: A Pulsed IV System is necessary to characterize semiconductor active devices under different states of bias supply. Pulsed IV systems are used to bias transistors in quasi-isothermal conditions, enabling accurate compact modeling activities. The objective is to apply pulsed DC-supplies to millimeter-wave transistors (mainly GaN and InP technologies) in order to reduce the thermal dissipation of the device under test. Consequently, NIST can measure the current versus voltage (IV) characteristics under different bias states and use this information to improve the transistor models.
REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATIONS:
Item 1: Pulsed IV System
1.1 - The Pulsed IV System shall be composed of control unit with two independent and synchronized output channels (Dual pulsed mode).
1.2 - The pulse IV system shall be composed of two pulse head probes, each connected to the two output channels of the control unit. The two pulse head probes are necessary to bring the measurement reference place as close as we can from the dispositive under test.
1.3 - The pulses shall be generated and measured inside the head probes.
1.4 - The head probes, in a pulse mode, must generate a voltage up to 25 V and a current up to 100 mA. 1.5 - The head probes shall embed fast short-circuit current breaker to protect the device under test.
1.6 - The pulse IV system shall work in a pulse mode and in a continuous mode.
1.7 - The pulse IV system shall work in voltage control mode and current control mode.
1.8 - The pulse IV system shall be capable of generating short pulses as narrow as 200 ns and long pulses larger than 1 s.
1.9 - The measurement voltage and current resolution shall be, respectively, lower than 1 mV and lower than 1 uA (assuming a 10-mA current).
1.10 - The pulse IV system shall come with a software, allowing the user to easily define the measurement setup (pulse width, voltage, current, limitation, duty cycle, etc..) and to display the measurement results.
1.11 - The software shall allow the synchronization and the measurement of the S-parameters during the IV pulse generation, whether the S-parameters are in pulsed mode or in a CW mode.
1.12 - The cables connecting the central unit and the two head probes shall be provided.
ELECTRONIC MEDIA: Include all software and/or electronic manuals.
DELIVERY: FOB Destination to NIST, 325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305. Quote must contain all costs for shipping and handling. Delivery is required no later than 14 weeks ARO. Early and partial delivery is acceptable.
INSTALLATION AND TRAINING: None.
INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE: Inspection and Acceptance will take place at the NIST facility in Boulder, CO within 7 days after installation of equipment.
WARRANTY: Manufacturer’s warranty is required. In addition, request an option for a 3-year extended warranty in your quote.
