Statement of Requirement

Title: Procurement of Linux research workstation computer systems.

Background Information

The Materials Science and Engineering Division's Center for Theoretical and Computational Materials Science operates a shared workspace with workstations running the Linux operating system for use by researchers who do not otherwise have access to a Linux computer. The current acquisition will enhance the capability of this workspace by replacing the outdated workstations in this space with modern hardware.

Scope of Work

This requirement consists of a number of high-performance desktop computer systems suitable for integration into a computer laboratory or open office environment. The Center for Theoretical and Computational Materials Science requires six (6) high-performance workstations to replace aging workstation computers in the shared space.

Peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and monitors, are already in place.

I. Specifications

The Contractor shall provide computer systems according to the specifications below.

Line Item 1: Linux Research Workstation Computers (6 required)

These Linux workstation computers must provide the following capabilities.

• A CPU totaling at least 16 cores, capable of running at least 24 simultaneous independent threads of execution, clocked at 3.2 GHz or faster, and implementing the x86-64/amd64 instruction set. The CPU must support DDR5 SDRAM rated at frequencies of 5,200 MHz and higher.

• Memory totaling at least 64 GB, consisting of unbuffered DDR5 SDRAM rated at 5,200 MHz (PC5-41600) or higher.

• One solid-state storage disk with capacity of 1 TB, with sequential read rates of 6,000 MB/s or faster.

• One discrete graphics processing unit (GPU) totaling at least 20 streaming cores, capable of running at least 640 general-purpose GPU threads of execution, and with memory capacity of at least 4 GB of GDDR5

SDRAM.

• At least one Ethernet port provided by an RJ-45 connector, rated at 1 Gb/s or faster.

• A motherboard capable of driving the CPU, RAM, GPU, and peripherals at their full rated speed. Integrated wireless networking is not required; if present, the BIOS must support disabling the integrated WiFi.

• A tower-style chassis housing all components, rated for operation on 110 V single-phase electrical power, with sufficient power and cooling to drive all the specified components at their full rated speeds. Intake and exhaust fans must be appropriate for a shared office environment, operating at full speed with noise levels below 25 dBA. Note that the CPU cooling fan, if present, is not subject to this constraint.

• All hardware must operate correctly at full rated speed in the Linux operating system with kernel version 5.18 or later.

• The Contractor must perform burn-in testing of all components prior to delivery.

• The computer system must be delivered fully assembled.

Option Units

This requirement includes the following separately priced option line items.

Option Line Item 2: One additional Linux Research Workstation Computer

This option consists of one additional Linux research workstation computer with the same specifications as enumerated for each unit under Line Item 1.

Option Line Item 3: A second additional Linux Research Workstation Computer

This option consists of Option Line Item 2 and one additional Linux research workstation computer with the same specifications as enumerated for each unit under Line Item 1.

Option Line Item 4: A third additional Linux Research Workstation Computer

This option consists of Option Line Item 3 and one additional Linux research workstation computer with the same specifications as enumerated for each unit under Line Item 1.

II. Period of Performance

The period of performance shall be within one hundred fifty (150) days from award of this award.

V. Deliverables Description Quantity Due Date

Workstation Computer 6 Within 150 days after award of this requirement

VI. Acceptance

The NIST TPOC will inspect the product to assure all the specification within document have been met.
