About this file

This document contains questions and answers regarding specifications for a replacement industrial boiler at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. The current boiler requires replacing with a model between 620,500-718,400 BTU output, within 10% of the existing capacity. Connection sizes must match the current 2" water inlet/outlet, 6" vent, 4" fresh air intake in PVC or CPVC, and 1" gas. Clearances and locations for the connections are also specified. The preferred replacement is a Lochinvar model KBX0650N-M13 boiler or equivalent, which is the upgraded version of the existing model no longer manufactured. The 55th Contracting Squadron is conducting market research and may issue a solicitation for this boiler at a later date under NAICS code 332410.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1. What are the space, connection, and capacity restraints?

Boiler must be no larger in any dimension than 24” wide, 42” deep, 45” tall. However, closer to 15.5” wide would be preferred. See question 2 for capacity. Anything further than 10% from the current capacity range risks 1) being completely unable to keep up with required heating load or 2) becoming unbalanced in the system operation cycling between boiler 1 & boiler 2 in the facility.

2. What is the appropriate heating capacity?

The appropriate heating capacity is between 620,500 BTU – 718,400 BTU (output - rounded). That’s the current output +/- 10%. Turndown must also meet 10:1 standard as per current capability.

3. What are the current connection configurations?

The current connection configuration is 2” water inlet & outlet, 6” vent and 4” fresh air intake (both CPVC), and 1” gas. For the new boiler the water piping sizes must be the same, the fresh air & exhaust size must be the same or smaller and able to use PVC or CPVC, the gas must be the same size or within +/- ¼”. The condensate drain size can change without issue. Water & exhaust & gas connections must be on the left side or back side of the boiler. The air inlet must be on the back side. The condensate outlet should be on the left, however a condensate on the back is acceptable. The control screen must be on the front. The exhaust coming out the top of the boiler is acceptable if need be.

4. Is the “Lochinvar model KBX0650N-M13 boiler” requested the same boiler currently existing at B369?

It’s the closest replacement model – the upgraded version of this series closest to the same size. They don’t manufacture the exact old model # (KBN701) any more.
