Department of Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection

Statement of Work For

HAZMAT SERVICES

1.0 BACKGROUND

The U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In the South Texas-Laredo field office, CBP is responsible for guarding many miles of land bordering Mexico. CBP's mission is to serve the American people by protecting these borders with vigilance, integrity, and professionalism.

CBP's agents prevent illegal entry into the United States of people and contraband at and between the ports of entry. CBP law enforcement officials are authorized to seize vehicles when there is reasonable cause to believe laws enforced by CBP have been violated.

Each year the CBP seizes thousands of vehicles along the South Texas Border. Often when vehicles enter the United State, they come equipped with compartments, both natural and man-made, that contain illegal contraband identified as hazardous.
