SECTION 011100
SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 GENERAL
1 .1 BACKGROUND
A. The Nauset Knolls Motor Lodge is a seasonal concessions operation open from mid-April through mid-October. The property consists of a twelve (12) unit motel in three (3) one (1) story frame buildings connected by open canopies. A decorative windmill also serves as the boiler room and storage area. There is an ice house/storage shed building, office/residence building and garage.
B. The motel, consisting of units one (1) through eight (8), was built in 1950 and units nine (9) through twelve (12) were added in 1955.
C. All Mechanical equipment for Motel Units is located in crawl space of decorative windmill.
Access to the crawl space is by very narrow ladder. 275 Gal oil storage tank is located in Ice House/Storage Shed.
D. All mechanical equipment for Office/Residence Building including oil storage tank is in Basement.
E. Building Information

1 .2 DESCRIPTION
A. Work of this Contract consists of the replacement of existing Heating Systems with new ductless mini split heating and cooling systems and installation of new water heaters in Nauset Knolls Motel and Office/Residence, located at 237 Beach Road, Cape Cod National Seashore, Orleans, MA.
B. All work will be performed under a single contract.
C. Contractor is required to provide all labor, supervision, transportation, supplies, equipment, tools, materials, all supplementary or miscellaneous items, appurtenances and devices incidental to or necessary for successful completion of the Project.
D. Work shall be carried out as specified herein and as required by field conditions and applicable regulatory requirements. Although this scope of work may identify specific tasks, it is the

Contractor’s responsibility to provide any and all elements, which are incidental to successfully execute this contract. In general the Work consists of, but may not be limited to, the following:
1. Disconnect, remove and dispose of existing Hot Water Heaters, oil-fired Boilers, expansion tanks, flue, all hot water circulators, (2) two 275 Gal aboveground oil storage tanks, piping and related electrical and heating accessories, controls, wiring and appurtenances.
2. Electrical system shall be inspected for integrity and prepared for use with new ductless mini split heating and cooling systems and hot water heaters.
3. Furnish and install Three 4-Zone and One 2-Zone ductless split system heat pumps, condensate drain and refrigerant piping, accessories, new operational and temperature controls, wiring, overcurrent protection, etc., as required for the new equipment to provide complete and operational Cooling/Heating System for Motel units and Office/Residence Building.
a. Outdoor units shall be installed on 6-inch high concrete pads.
4. Furnish and install new electric Hot Water Heater and recirculating pump in crawl space of decorative windmill.
5. Furnish and install new electric Hot Water Heater for Office/Residence Building.
6. Modify existing domestic hot water piping to accommodate new Hot Water Heaters’ installation.
7. Furnish and install indoor ceiling fan with light kit in Office.
8. Provide testing of the newly installed ductless mini split systems and water heaters. The operation of the ductless mini split heating and cooling systems and water heaters must meet all manufacturer and industry standards in order to prevent a premature equipment failure and to extend equipment life.
9. Provide operations and maintenance manuals for new equipment and provide 2 hours of training to Maintenance Personnel.
10. Provide an As-Built layout drawing for new equipment in crawl space, Motel Units, Office/Residence building and Office/Residence building Basement.
E. All work shall adhere to the current edition of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
Standard No. 101, Life Safety Code. References and standards referenced with NFPA No. 101 and NFPA 70E are considered part of the Life Safety Code and serve as minimum requirements when applicable.
F. All materials, finishes and hardware shall be selected for their ease of maintenance, high durability, and local availability.
G. Due to the age of the buildings and the boilers included in this project, the presence of hazardous materials is suspected. The contractor is responsible for determining the extent of the hazardous
October 2015 SUMMARY OF WORK 011100 - Page 3 of 7 materials within the scope of work and for removing and disposing of said materials by following all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The contractor shall bear all costs of this process.
The contractor is also responsible for the following:
1. All permit issuances.
2. Establishing what federal, state and local regulations apply to the existing construction.
3. Determining the appropriate criteria for handling any hazardous material; establishing the proper means and methods for disturbing any hazardous materials and properly disposing of any hazardous materials waste products.
4. Providing proof (manifests, logs, certificates, etc.) of lawful removal and disposal of hazardous materials.
H. Space Limitation:
1. Narrow access to the crawl space is not suitable for hauling mechanical equipment, therefore equipment to be removed may require cutting in pieces before removal.
I. All prospective Bidders, and their Subs, as appropriate are strongly encouraged to visit and examine the existing conditions of the Project prior to submission of Bid in order to better understand the Work and aid in forming any questions prior to the submission of Bid.
J. Contractor and all Subcontractors shall verify all new and existing dimensions prior to the commencement of Work and/or ordering of products and materials that may affect the Work of this Contract. Any and all discrepancies shall be forwarded to the Contracting Officer in writing for clarification prior to the commencement of Work. Any Work performed prior to said clarification, particularly and including that which may require correction, shall be corrected by the Contractor with no additional costs to the Contract and Government and no time extension shall be made to the Contract Schedule.
K. Lack of knowledge of the existing conditions will not be allowed as a basis for extra compensation.
1 .3 DEMOLITION
A. Prior to beginning any work, the contractor shall obtain any related permits required to complete the work requirements stated in this SOW.
B. Before beginning any demolition or deconstruction Work, survey and examine the Site to determine the extent of the Work. Take necessary precautions to avoid damage to existing items to remain in place, to be reused, or to remain property of Government.
C. Removal of existing equipment shall be done carefully to preclude damage to remaining fabrics.
Every precaution shall be taken to prevent damage to the existing structures and surrounding areas should any damage results, restore to the satisfaction of the CO.

D. The Contractor may make limited alterations to structural appurtenances to accommodate the removal of the existing heating system. The government in advance of the work must approve all modifications.
E. Removal and Disposal
1. Removal and disposal of the existing equipment and materials shall be the Contractor's responsibility.
a. Abandonment in place of equipment and piping not being used for new systems is not permitted, except as stated below in paragraphs (1) and (2).
(1) Abandonment in place will be accepted for any piping that is buried.
(2) All Hot water Baseboard Units in Motel rooms and Office/Residence Building shall be disconnected and abandoned in place.
F. Clean up shall be performed on a continuous basis, without allowing trash or construction debris to pile up in the work site or any other location inside or outside the building. The contractor shall, at the end of each workday, store properly and secure all hazardous and potentially dangerous material substances used in the work. Debris shall be collected daily by the contractor and disposed of, off site, in accordance with applicable laws. The contractor shall be responsible for all fees, permits, etc., required for waste management and disposal.
G. Burning or burial of materials is not permitted. Contractor shall not use existing, onsite, disposal receptacles intended for use by building occupants.
H. All equipment and/or materials related to the work to be performed, that are property of the Contractor, are the Contractor’s responsibility to secure daily. The Government shall not be liable for equipment and or materials that get lost or stolen from the area.
I. Where removals leave holes and damaged surfaces exposed in the finished Work, patch and repair holes and damaged surfaces to match adjacent finished surfaces, using on-site materials when available. Where new Work is to be applied to existing surfaces, perform removals and patching in a manner to produce surfaces suitable for receiving new Work. Finished surfaces of patched area shall be flush with the adjacent existing surface and shall match the existing adjacent surface as closely as possible as to texture and finish.
1 .4 ACCIDENT PREVENTION
A. All Work on the Site shall be in compliance with the applicable OSHA regulations.
B. Submit site safety plans for each Site and attain the approval from the Park Safety Officer before a Notice to Proceed at is issued. A format for a Safety Plan is available upon request.
C. Establish and maintain an Accident Prevention Program.
1. Ensure that employees are physically qualified to perform their assigned duties in a safe manner.

2. Do not allow employees or volunteers to work whose ability or alertness is impaired due to conditions that may expose them or others to injury.
3 The Program shall include:
a. Name of person in charge of the program
b. Weekly safety meetings while on site
c. First aid procedures
d. Outline hazards associated with Work
e. Planning for possible emergency situations: slides, cave-ins, wind storms, etc.
f. Housekeeping and clean-up
g. Training initial and continuing.
D. Accident Reporting
1. Reportable Accidents is defined as death, occupational disease, traumatic injury to employees or public, property damage by accident in excess of $100, and wild land fires.
2. For Reportable Accidents, call 911 and then immediately notify Contracting Officer.
3. All other Accidents Contractor shall notify Contracting Officer as soon as possible.
4. Assist Contracting Officer and other officials as required in the investigation of accidents.
1 .5 WORK COMPLETION
A. Complete all Work within 60 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed. The time stated for completion shall include final clean-up of the premises.
B. Proposed purchase and installation is critical to support concession operations at Cape Cod National Seashore. Contractor shall complete work no later than March 23, 2016.
C. Unit down time shall be kept to a minimum. Temporary heaters shall be placed in areas where equipment downtime may result in frozen pipes.
1 .6 LOCATION
A. Nauset Knolls Motel, 237 Beach Road, Cape Cod National Seashore, Orleans, MA 02653.
1 .7 CONTRACTOR'S USE OF PREMISES
A. Buildings and site will be closed to the public during construction.
B. Fence, barricade, or otherwise block off the immediate work area to prevent unauthorized entry.
Erect and maintain fencing, barricades, lights, signals, and warning signs in accordance with latest MUTCD.
C. Construction Camp: The scope and size of the construction camp will be assigned to the Contractor by the park Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
D. Storage of materials: Confine storage of materials to an area as defined by the COR.

E. Preservation of Natural Features: Confine all operations to work limits of the Project. Prevent damage to natural surroundings. Restore damaged areas, repairing or replacing damaged trees and plants, at no additional expense to Government.
1. Provide temporary barriers to protect existing trees and plants and root zones.
2. Do not remove, injure, or destroy trees or other plants without prior approval. Consult with Contracting Officer and remove agreed-on roots and branches that interfere with construction.
3. Do not fasten ropes, cables, or guys to existing trees.
F. Existing Utilities:
1. Contractor shall be responsible for locating and preventing damage to known utilities. If damage occurs, repair utility at no additional expense to the Government.
G. Hauling Restrictions: Comply with all legal load restrictions in the hauling of materials. Load restrictions on park roads are identical to the state load restrictions with such additional regulations as may be imposed by the Park Superintendent. Information regarding rules and regulations for vehicular traffic on park roads may be obtained from the Office of the Park Superintendent. A special permit will not relieve Contractor of liability for damage, which may result from moving of equipment.
H. Hours of Operation:
1. Contractor's hours of operation at the site shall be normal working hours of the park staff from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday thru Friday, unless otherwise allowed by Contracting Officer.
2. All work outside the above time period shall only occur with the written approval of Contracting Officer. No Work will occur at the site on days of the week that coincide with National Holidays or when the park is closed to the public due to weather emergencies.
3. Any weekend Work or overtime Work shall be verified in writing 48 (forty eight) hours in advance of that work being performed.
1 .8 CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
A. All materials, including borrow and aggregates, shall be Contractor-furnished from outside the Park.
B. Before beginning on-site Work, submit a list of materials that might be recycled during the course of the Contract. This list should name the material, recycling methods, and/or proposed disposal location. This list is for information only. Recycling is voluntary, but highly encouraged.
C. New Construction Materials: Contractor is encouraged to submit for approval products made out of recycled or environmentally responsible material. Every effort will be made by the NPS to approve these materials.

A. It has been determined by the Government that the use of Metric Measurements (SI Units) is impracticable for this Project and may cause inefficiencies. Thus, Imperial Measurements, also known as Inch –Pound Measurements (IP Units), shall be cited and utilized throughout the Project.

ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
1 .1 DESCRIPTION
A. The work of this section consists of submittal requirements before and during construction.
1 .2 SUBMITTAL AND APPROVAL PROCEDURES
A. As specified in the individual sections, forward submittals to Contracting Officer at least 10 days before need for approval. Unless a different number is specified, submit one reproducible original and two copies of each shop drawing, three copies of manufacturer's catalog sheets (cut sheets), and three copies of all other submittals requested. Submittals shall be accompanied by a Transmittal Sheet, form CM-16, included in Document 000600 - Project Forms.
Electronic submittals are acceptable.
1. Shop Drawings: Include the following information with each copy of shop drawings:
a. Date.
b. Date of revisions (when applicable).
c. Details of fabrication, assembly and erection including connections and engagement to contiguous work.
d. Materials used.
e. All required dimensions.
f. The term "by others" shall not be used. All work to be performed by others shall be identified by Contractor or subcontractor name, discipline, or trade.
2. Manufacturers' Catalog Sheets: Submit only pertinent pages; mark each copy of standard printed data to identify specific products proposed for use.
3. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: When contract documents require compliance with manufacturer's printed instructions, provide one complete set of instructions for Contracting Officer and keep another complete set of instructions at the project site until substantial completion.
B. Contracting Officer reserves the right to require submittals in addition to those called for in individual sections.
C. Coordinate all submittals and review them for legibility, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with contract requirements. Forward submittals that are related to or affect one another as a package to facilitate coordinated review. Each transmittal shall contain only data specific to that individual submittal.

1. Identification shall include the park name-package number, project title, contract number, and transmittal number.
2. All sets of shop drawings, manufacturer's catalog sheets, samples, and other documents submitted to the Contracting Officer must have the identification information shown on the submittal.
3. Identification information shall be applied to the bottom right margin on each page.
Identification information on samples shall be applied to the most readily visible area on the sample or on tags attached to sample.
E. Submittal Numbering:
1. Number each submittal consecutively.
2. For re-submittals use the original submittal number, plus a letter suffix beginning with A.
3. Additional re-submittals of the same item shall contain the original number with the next consecutive letter.
F. Contracting Officer's Review:
1. Submittals will be returned disapproved without technical review if identification information is missing, not filled in, or if placed on the back of the submittal; an incorrect number or format of submittals is provided; the transmittal form is incorrectly filled out;
submittals are not coordinated; or submittals do not show evidence of Contractor's approval.
2. Any work done or orders for materials or services placed before approval shall be at the Contractor's own risk and cost.
3. After reviewing submittals, the Contracting Officer will return one copy of applicable (marked up) submittal sheets to the Contractor. Shop drawing review notations will be returned on the reproducible original shop drawing. All other submitted items will be retained. The Contractor is responsible for producing additional copies for his/her own use.
4. The returned submittal will be marked in one of three ways as defined below:
a. APPROVED: Acceptable with no corrections.
b. APPROVED WITH NOTATIONS: Minor corrections or clarifications required.
All comments are clear and no further review is required. The Contractor shall address all review comments when proceeding with the work.
c. DISAPPROVED - RESUBMIT: Rejected as not in accordance with the contract or as requiring major corrections or clarifications. The Contracting Officer will identify the reasons for disapproval. The Contractor shall revise and resubmit with changes clearly identified.

REMOVAL OF OIL STORAGE TANKS
1 .1 SUMMARY
A. The work consists of requirements for removal and off-site disposal of oil storage tank systems.
1 .2 APPLICABLE STANDARDS
A. All work performed under the contract shall be in compliance with all laws and regulations of the federal, state and local governments in whose jurisdiction the service is performed and the following publications (or latest revision) as a minimum.

1 .3 CONTRACTOR QUALIFICATIONS
A. The contractor shall be a qualified professional capable of performing aboveground storage tank removal and disposal in accordance to Federal, State, and local regulations.
B. Obtain all necessary registration numbers, licenses and permits in connection with work required by the contract.
C. Have a minimum of five years experience in removal and off-site disposal of PST systems.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 TANK REMOVAL

A. Contractor shall notify Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and local fire departments prior to scheduled removal.
B. The remaining oil shall be transferred into a holding tank. All piping must be drained and the contents legally and properly disposed of. All remaining liquids that can be pumped out, (may require a hand pump) must be removed and any liquids that cannot be used for their originally intended purpose must be disposed of in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations. The pipes shall be cut and removed.
C. After liquid removal, monitor the atmosphere of the tank for potentially dangerous tank conditions such as high flammable vapor levels and low oxygen content. If no flammable vapors are present and the tank contains sufficient oxygen, the tank shall be cut open as per American Petroleum Institute (API) Publication 2015, "Cleaning Petroleum Storage Tanks". Tank cleaning shall consist of wiping, squeegeeing, and removing all liquids and sludges from the tank. All liquids and sludges generated as a result of the tank cleaning process shall be transported from the site to a licensed oil recycling facility.
D. After the tank has been cleaned, the tank shall be cut into pieces and removed. Hand wipe inside of tank clean. Remove tank (and fill and vent pipes) and dispose at proper facility. Dispose of all sludge, water, oil, etc. at a licensed facility. The holes in the side of the buildings shall be sealed.
E. Contractor shall provide the contracting officer’s representative written certification by the vendor, shipper, and receiver, that all liquids and residues, tanks, and accessories were removed, shipped, and disposed of in accordance with all applicable permits, safety rules, and regulations.
3.2 CERTIFICATION: The contractor shall submit to the contracting officer’s representative written certification:
A. That used tank(s) and accessories were removed from the site as specified herein and in accordance with all applicable safety rules and regulations.
B. That the transporter shipped all used tank(s), accessories and materials in compliance with all safety rules and regulations and under the proper federal, state, and local transportation permits.
C. Documentation from a recycling or disposal facility which acknowledges deliveries of waste material or destruction of waste material. A manifest is required.

ASBESTOS REMEDIATION
PART 1 GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. The work consists of providing all labor, materials, tools, equipment and services necessary for the removal, handling and disposal of asbestos-containing materials (ACM).
B. ACM impacted by the Work of this Contract shall be abated as required by all applicable codes and regulations.
C. Suspected ACM: It is suspected that there is asbestos to be found within the scope of work. It is difficult to know whether or not asbestos exists, however, based on the age of the system and the buildings, it is expected.
D. The contractor is responsible for determining the extent of the hazardous materials within the scope of work and for removing and disposing of said materials by following all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The contractor shall bear all costs of this process.
E. Notify the Government at least five (5) working days prior to the start of any ACM removal operations.
1.2 COMPLIANCE STANDARDS
A. Comply with the most recent versions of all applicable local, state and federal regulations governing the removal and disposal of asbestos containing materials, including, but not limited to, the following:
1. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
2. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
3. Department of Defense, Army Corp of Engineers Manual No. EM- 385,-1-1

B. Contractor is responsible for filing all required notifications and obtaining all required permits.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Preparatory Meeting: Before the work of this section is scheduled to commence, a conference will be held at the Site for the purpose of reviewing the Contract Documents, discussing requirements for the work, and reviewing the Work Procedures. The conference will be attended by the Government, Contractor and asbestos removal subcontractor.
B. Hauling: Provide a hauler for removal of contaminated waste who is licensed and certified to transport ACM waste by the jurisdiction(s) having authority.

1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. As specified in Division 01 Section “Submittal Procedures”.
B. Action Submittals to the Government shall include:
1. Following survey, and a minimum of seven (7) days prior to beginning abatement work, submit written report regarding the asbestos containing and contaminated materials found to Government for review.
2. Notification Compliance Data: Submit a copy of the Asbestos Project Notification as required to the EPA and other applicable agencies. Submit written evidence that it has been forwarded and received by the EPA seven (7) calendar days prior to beginning asbestos abatement work. Any changes in notification will be resubmitted with evidence of EPA notification.
3. Asbestos Removal Company Data: Provide the following information:
a. Name, address and telephone number;
b. Experience of proposed asbestos removal company.
c. Submit current asbestos certificate and license for the Asbestos Supervisor who will be in a supervisory position.
d. Submit valid, current asbestos certificates and licensing of training for the company and each employee.
e. Training certificates must be issued by a training provider approved by the EPA.
4. Third Party Monitor Data:
a. Name, address and telephone number;
b. Applicable, valid, current licensing/certifications of the proposed air monitoring testing laboratory.
5. Waste Hauler Data:
a. Name, address and telephone number;
b. Applicable, valid, current licensing/certifications for the proposed waste hauler.
C. Activity Hazard Analyses (AHA): AHA’s for each major phase of work, shall be submitted and updated during the project.
1. The AHA’s format shall be in accordance with Figure 1-1 of EM 385-1-1.
2. The analysis shall define the activities to be performed, identify the sequence of work, the specific hazards anticipated, and the control measures to be implemented to eliminate or reduce each hazard to an acceptable level.
3. Work shall not proceed until the AHA has been accepted and a Preparatory Meeting (see Article 1.3, A above) has been conducted by the Contractor, who shall discuss its contents with everyone engaged in the activities, including the onsite Government representatives. The AHA’s shall be continuously reviewed and, when appropriate, modified to address changing site conditions or operations.
D. Contract Closeout Submittals shall be submitted to the Government within ten (10) days of Contractor’s receipt and shall include:
1. Air Monitoring Test Reports.
2. Disposal Site Receipts: Copy of each fully complete waste manifest showing the ACM has been properly disposed.
3. Contractor’s Asbestos Abatement Report: A copy of the Contractor’s daily construction logs including completed work area sign in/sign out logs.

A. Post required signs and warnings on all vehicles and containers used for asbestos containing materials transportation and storage with required signs and warnings.
B. Store equipment to prevent cross contamination of non-asbestos work areas.
C. The Contractor shall visit the site and become acquainted with, and conform to, all existing conditions.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.1 MATERIALS
A. Polyethylene sheeting shall be fire-retardant of at least 6-mil thickness and in sheet sizes to minimize the frequency of seams.
B. Polyethylene bags shall be at least 6 mil thick, large enough for the intended application.
C. Impermeable containers, such as fiberboard or plastic drums, may be used to receive and retain asbestos-containing or contaminated materials awaiting disposal at an acceptable site.
Imprinted labels shall be in accordance with OSHA requirements.
D. Plastic sheeting of at least 6 mil thick may be used to wrap asbestos containing materials provided that the material is wrapped with at least two (2) layers of the sheeting, sealed air tight with duct tape and labeled in accordance with OSHA regulations.
E. All containers used for project area and/or manual transportation or disposal of asbestos containing waste shall be labeled in accordance with OSHA standards.
F. Utility duct tape of either two inch or three inch widths shall be used and must be capable of sealing joints in adjacent plastic sheets, attaching plastic sheets to finished or unfinished surfaces, and maintaining adhesive properties under both wet and dry conditions.
G. Surfactants (wetting agents) shall be used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.
H. Labels and warning signs shall meet all requirements of OSHA standards.
I. Protective clothing as required by applicable codes and standards shall be provided in sufficient quantities as necessary to perform the entire abatement process.
1. Protective clothing shall allow for worker acclimatization to heat.
2.2 EQUIPMENT
A. Respiratory protection shall meet OSHA requirements.

A. Existing materials to remain shall be protected throughout the course of the abatement work and shall not be damaged.
3.2 ACM HANDLING AND REMOVAL PROCEDURES
A. Use the gentlest methods possible in order to achieve the required removal of ACM. Do not unduly damage historic materials in the removal of ACM.
B. In addition to the requirements identified in this section, comply with all applicable codes and regulations and the standards referenced in Article 1.2 of this specification.
C. Secure the ACM Removal Areas as required and post required notification.
E. Spray friable ACM with amended water, using airless spray equipment capable of providing a “mist” application. An OSHA trained and certified person shall determine the quantity of amended water that is appropriate in consideration of worker safety, so as to avoid slipping/falling hazards.
F. Remove gross ACM in accordance with all applicable code and regulations.
1. Materials shall not be allowed to dry.
2. Clean up of accumulations of loose asbestos material shall be performed whenever enough loose asbestos material has been removed to fill a single leak-proof container.
3. In no case shall clean-up be performed less than once prior to the close of each workday.
G. Clean the work areas using HEPA vacuum equipment and wet cleaning methods as appropriate.
Do not use methods that raise dust, such as dry sweeping or vacuuming with equipment not equipped with HEPA filters.
H. After completion of removal work, all surfaces from which asbestos has been removed shall be wet brushed, using a nylon brush, wet wiped and sponged or cleaned by an equivalent method to remove all visible material (wire brushes are not permitted). During this work, the surfaces being cleaned shall be kept wet.
I. Maintain the site in a neat and orderly condition at all times.
3.3 CLEAN UP CRITERIA
A. Comply with all applicable codes and regulations and referenced standards.
B. A visual inspection by Contractor and the Contractor’s Third Party Monitor shall be conducted before the conclusion of the work in each Regulated Removal Area. If the inspections find visible accumulations of dust or bulk asbestos containing materials in the area, repeat the cleaning until the work area is in compliance. Such re-cleaning shall be at the Contractor’s expense.
3.4 DISPOSAL OF ASBESTOS-CONTAINING MATERIAL
A. Ensure and document all asbestos waste is properly containerized and labeled in accordance with all applicable code, regulations and standards. This shall include the labeling of all

B. Ensure and document that the landfill to be utilized for disposal is approved for asbestos disposal by the EPA and/or all other agencies having jurisdiction over asbestos waste disposal.
C. Transport asbestos waste in accordance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.
Asbestos materials shall be delivered in separate shipments, and shall not be transported with other non-hazardous materials.
D. Retain all waste manifests and receipts, and submit to the Government as available, but not later than project close-out.

1.4 WARRANTY

C. Description: Factory-assembled and -tested, centrifugal, overhung-impeller, close-coupled, in-line pump as defined in HI 1.1-1.2 and HI 1.3; designed for installation with pump and motor shafts mounted horizontally or vertically.
2.3 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL
A. Factory Tests: Test and inspect domestic-water heaters specified to be ASME-code construction, according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.
B. Hydrostatically test domestic water heaters to minimum of one and one-half times pressure rating before shipment.
C. Prepare test and inspection reports.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 DOMESTIC-WATER HEATER INSTALLATION
A. Install electric, domestic-water heaters per Manufacturer’s instructions. Provide concrete base.
Maintain manufacturer's recommended clearances. Provide all associated components for installation and operation.
B. Install shutoff valves on domestic-water-supply piping to domestic-water heaters and on domestic-hot-water outlet piping.
C. Install combination temperature-and-pressure relief valves in top portion of storage tanks. Use relief valves with sensing elements that extend into tanks. Extend commercial-water-heater relief-valve outlet, with drain piping same as domestic-water piping in continuous downward pitch, and discharge by positive air gap onto closest floor drain.
D. Install thermometers on outlet piping of electric, domestic-water heaters.
E. Fill electric, domestic-water heaters with water.
3.2 CONNECTIONS
A. Modify existing domestic hot water piping to accommodate new Hot Water Heater installation.
B. Where installing piping adjacent to electric, domestic-water heaters, allow space for service and maintenance of water heaters. Arrange piping for easy removal of domestic-water heaters.
3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Perform tests and inspections.
1. Leak Test: After installation, charge system and test for leaks. Repair leaks and retest until no leaks exist.

1 .1 DESCRIPTION
A. This section contains items of common or administrative nature that pertain to all mechanical work.
1 .2 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. All pressure vessels, including safety devices and appurtenances, shall comply with standards of and bear stamp of ASME.
1 .3 COORDINATION
A. Interruption of Services: Coordinate shutdown of building mechanical and/or electrical systems with Contracting Officer.
B. Schedule of Work: Coordinate work with other trades. In scheduling, anticipate such items as installing equipment through available openings in structure.
C. Make minor changes in piping, and equipment locations to suit actual conditions.
1 .4 PROTECTION
A. Completely cover motors and other machinery to protect from dirt and water. Cap all openings in pipe and ductwork to protect against entry of foreign matter.
3 .1 CUTTING AND PATCHING
A. Perform or pay for all cutting, fitting, repairing, patching and finishing of work of other sections where it is necessary to disturb such work to permit installation of mechanical work.
B. Before cutting of structural elements, obtain approval of Contracting Officer.
1. Use only approved methods.
2. Cut all holes neatly and as small as possible to admit work.
3. Do not weaken walls or floors; locate holes in concrete to miss structural sections.
C. Locate openings and sleeves to permit neat installation of piping, ductwork and equipment.

D. Do not remove or damage fireproofing materials.
1. Install hangers, inserts, supports and anchors prior to installation of fireproofing.
2. Repair or replace fireproofing removed or damaged, at no extra cost.
3 .2 PENETRATIONS
A. Where mechanical items penetrate fire and/or smoke rated walls, ceilings and floors, seal annular spaces with approved fire rated material to maintain fire and smoke ratings.
3 .3 INSTALLATION OF EQUIPMENT
A. Install all equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
B. Provide all necessary anchoring devices and supports.
C. Install equipment to permit easy access for normal maintenance.
1. Maintain easy access to filters, motors, drives, etc.
2. Relocate items which interfere with access.
3. Connect equipment for ease of disconnecting. Provide isolation valves on both sides of equipment wherever new or existing equipment is installed to facilitate servicing, maintenance, and repair or replacement of equipment components.
D. Remove, relocate and re-install all existing mechanical equipment to be re-used.
E. Provide rough-in and final connections to all equipment requiring mechanical services.
F. Install all fittings, valves and other items furnished as integral part of equipment, but shipped loose.
3 .4 WORK IN EXISTING BUILDING
A. Where relocation of existing equipment and piping systems is necessary in areas providing uninterruptible services, schedule work for minimal down time during unoccupied periods.
B. Assign an adequate crew to accomplish the job in the least possible time.
C. Fabricate and install interconnecting portions of these systems prior to shut-down for final connections.
D. Locate existing piping and make connections as required.
1. Do not cut into existing services without first verifying with Government that service has been correctly identified.
