The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is provided and assigned law enforcement government-owned vehicles (GOV’s) to accomplish their mission for which they are responsible. As such, the OIG requires that these GOV’s be routinely housed/parked in the SAME confines/building as the Office of Investigations (OI) to ensure the safety and preservation of equipment and to limit outside exposure of sensitive investigative material.
Therefore, the following criteria must be met regarding parking of GOV’s, must
1) Be parked in the SAME building as the Office of Investigations
2) Have 24/7 access to the parking facility
3) Offer “self” parking to prevent any possibility fo forfeiting GOV keys, and law enforcement contents to parking attendants.
4) Have direct access (elevator/stairs) from parking garage to OI’s offices at 875 15th Street, NW, Wash., DC., to assist with the following law enforcement and operational needs:
• Minimize exposure of OI Special Agent personnel to the general public
• Ensure safety and reduces potential exposure of arrestees/witnesses being transported from GOV’s to
OI’s office location for questioning and/or processing.
• Minimize chain of custody issues surrounding evidence being relocated.
• Strengthen the security of sensitive law enforcement information and equipment being housed or transported via GOV’s, and
• Prevent delay of access to the GOV’s during emergency situations.
