1. SCOPE
Vibration testing is performed at KSC to specifications or measured data in order to determine ac-ceptance/qualification criteria for GSE. GSE susceptible to vibration damage within a 1000 ft. radius of the launch pad must be tested for vibration endurance.
Avionics require random vibration testing up to 2500Hz and significant shock response spectrum test-ing. These tests require a mid-sized electro-dynamic shaker with a light armature and a guided slip ta-ble.
The contractor shall provide all personnel, labor, equipment, tools, materials, supplies, transportation, supervision and other items necessary to perform the requirements within this specification.
2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
The following reference documents form a part of this document to the extent specified herein. The lat-est revision applies unless a specific revision is indicated.

3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Definition
The vibration table or shaker will be used for acceptance/qualification testing of GSE and flight hard-ware in the launch environment. Vibration table of different sizes and configurations are required to meet testing goals for varying test article sizes and vibration requirements. Due to new and evolving test requirements, we are seeking the maximum electro-dynamic system performance available on the commercial off the shelf market to meet the severe launch environments. The major parameters in con-sideration are maximum sine, random shock, shock level, maximum stroke, maximum velocity, maxi-mum slip table overturning moment, armature weight and associated resonance, and mean time between failures.

3.2 Characteristics
3.2.1 Medium Energy Random/Shock Vibration Table (22K Shaker)
3.2.1.1 The shaker shall be uniaxial.
3.2.1.2 The shaker shall have frequency range of 5-2500 Hz at full rated performance.
3.2.1.3 The shaker shall be a maximum of 25,000 lb. sine force rated.
3.2.1.4 The shaker shall have a maximum sine acceleration of 200 g.
3.2.1.5 The shaker shall have a maximum random acceleration of 170 g rms with 10 lb. payload.
3.2.1.6 The shaker shall have a maximum half sine shock force of 90,000 lbs-f.
3.2.1.7 The shaker shall have a maximum of a 3 inch peak to peak stroke.
3.2.1.8 The shaker shall have a maximum velocity of 80 in/sec sine and 280 in/sec shock.
3.2.1.9 The shaker shall have a 30 in. x 30 in. guided slip table.
3.2.1.10 The shaker shall be designed to support fixturing and test articles up to 1900 lbs.
3.2.2 Reliability and Maintainability
3.2.2.1 The components should have a minimum useful life of 20 years based on routine maintenance schedule as defined by the manufacturer.
3.3 Interchangeability
Hardware assemblies, components, and parts with the same part number shall be physically and functionally interchangeable.
3.4 Government-Furnished Property
The existing 22k shaker (GFP) interconnects, amplifier and blower shall be used saving cost and labor.

3.7 Precedence
In the case of conflict, the technical requirements of this specification take precedence over the tech-nical requirements cited in the listed applicable documents or referenced guidance documents. The vendor shall notify NASA CO of each instance of conflicting or apparently conflicting requirements.
4. ACCEPTANCE TESTS
The purpose of the acceptance testing is to verify that the electro-dynamic shakers COTS equipment meet the vendor specification.

5. PACKING FOR SHIPMENT
Safe delivery in packaging is defined as delivery of a shipment to its destination with minimal damage to the package and no damage to the contents. The vendor shall provide outside package marking essen-tial to the identification of the item in detail, including appropriate identification of the product on both packages and shipping containers and all markings necessary for safe delivery and for storage.
6. NOTES
6.1 Intended Use
This document is intended to establish the requirements for fabrication and testing electro-dynamic shakers for use at the NASA Vibration Laboratory.
6.2 Definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following definitions shall apply.
a. Acceptance Tests - A test (or series of tests) conducted on each fabricated item to verify that it performs in accordance with expectations and requirements, that it is designed and produced with adequate workmanship and quality and that it is acceptable for delivery to the customer.
Acceptance testing often includes testing for certification and to detect latent manufacturing and workmanship problems.
b. Shall - Used to indicate a requirement which denotes a mandatory action.
c. Should – Used to indicate a requirement which denotes a good practice and is recommended, but not required.
d. Will – Used to denote an expected outcome.
