Machining of Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle Orion mockup/trainer components

Background:

The MPCV Orion Vehicle is nearing the point in its development where high-fidelity components are required to outfit NASA mockup and training facilities. These mockups and trainers will be used for the final phases of engineering development, requirement verification, and eventually astronaut training.

Task:

The task is to machine high-fidelity components, based on MPCV Prime Contractor Lockheed

Martin Computer-Aided Design (CAD) flight solid models which are proprietary and subject to

Export Control. The components will be machined out of 6061 and 7075 Aluminum. Due to the fact that spacecraft components are optimized for strength and mass, the geometry of the parts is extremely complex, requiring large 5 axis Computer Numerical Control milling machines with minimum travel along the X axis of 68”. Advanced Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programming will also be required. Additionally, Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) is required for fabrication of certain of the components. Advanced fixturing will also be required.

Task Deliverables:

1. Display and Control Console Frame, fabricated per NASA-supplied CAD (1 part).

Quantity-1

2. Occupant Protection System (seat) assembly (18 parts). Quantity-2

3. All custom Fixtures used to machine these parts

Terms:

1. Prospective Bidders should sign non-disclosure agreements, plus verify compliance with

Export Control requirements.

2. Upon receipt, CAD data will be released, enabling the development of vendor quotes.
