Specifications Document

1064 nm continuous wave (CW) YAG laser

NB686010-18-00760

1/5/2018

Background: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Applied Physics

Division (Div. 686) calibrates laser power measurement equipment by comparing it against U.S.

national standard detectors for laser power. These calibrations support the application of lasers in manufacturing, medicine, communications, and the Department of Defense, among other fields.

To perform comparisons of “customer” laser power meters against the national standards, a laser source providing power and wavelength equivalent to those under which the customer will use the laser power meter is critical to calibration suitability. Roughly half of the calibration activity for free-space power measurement takes place at 1064 nm and the calibration system requires a source exceeding 8 Watts to meet customer requirements.

Purpose: To acquire One (1) 1064 nm continuous wave YAG (CW) laser rated to at least 8 Watts output power. The laser beam must have a nearly “gaussian” (bell curve) profile, excellent pointing stability, beam profile stability and power stability. The linewidth (bandwidth) of the laser must be under 0.5 nm (equivalent bandwidth of 133 GHz) “full width half maximum.”

Deliverable(s): The contractor shall deliver One (1) 1064 nm YAG continuous wave (CW) laser rated to at least 8 Watts output power, including laser head, manual control interface, and power supply compatible with 120VAC electrical mains.

Technical Specifications. The contractor shall provide the following:

• One (1) Continuous Wave (CW) YAG Laser.

• Wavelength: 1064 nm +/- 0.5 nm (+/- 133 GHz)

• Maximum rated continuous output power: no less than 8 W, no greater than 20 W

• Power stability: no greater than 3%.

• Pointing Stability: no greater than 12 μrad.

• M2 beam shape parameter: no greater than 1.45.

• Mode structure: TEM00.

Technical Considerations: Laser must be a diode pumped solid state (DPSS) Ytterbium

Aluminum Garnet (YAG) system. The system must include a manual control interface capable of varying laser power from 10-100% of rated power. Lower and upper power ranges must meet the above technical specifications.

Government Furnished Property or Information: N/A

Delivery Schedule: Contractor shall deliver no later than eight (8) weeks After Receipt of Order

(ARO).

Inspection and Acceptance: The NIST Technical Point-of-Contact (TPOC) will inspect and test the merchandise upon delivery. The merchandise shall perform according to specifications.

Warranty: The laser shall meet its rated specifications for a minimum of 3 years or 3000 hours of operational time.
