About this file
This document is a Requirements/Specifications document for a 50 MHz Lock-In Amplifier requested by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Communications Technology Laboratory. The document outlines the technical specifications for a two-channel lock-in amplifier with digital IQ demodulation capabilities up to 50 MHz, including requirements for input/output channels, demodulators, PID controllers, auxiliary channels, high frequency outputs, and data logging. It also includes procurement details such as shipping, delivery, installation, training, warranty, calibration, and maintenance requirements. The associated federal contract opportunity, solicitation number NB672010-24-02815, is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items conducted under FAR 12.6 and 13.106, with a small business size standard of 1000 employees for NAICS code 334516 - Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing. The solicitation is unrestricted, and quotations are due by the specified close date and time.

Requirements / Specification Document
TITLE: 50 MHz Lock-In Amplifier
Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:
Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Electronics Division Guided Wave Electromagnetics (672.01)
General Statement of Need:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)/Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) needs to measure small, modulated signals up to 50 MHz center frequency in microwave and optical experiments. This will require a two-channel lock-in amplifier with digital IQ demodulation of multiple arbitrary frequencies per channel.
Item Specifications and Quantities:
Item 1: 50 MHz lock-in amplifier Quantity: 1 Specifications: 1.1 DC to 50 MHz (or greater) analog input bandwidth on 2 input channels
1.2 50 Ohm and 1 Megaohm internally switched input terminations on input channels
1.3 10 nV/sqrt(Hz) or better input noise density from 100 kHz to 10
MHz
1.4 3 V peak-to-peak or greater DC coupled input voltage handling
1.5 Minimum of 6 digital IQ (and R,Theta) demodulators capable of arbitrary user-specified center frequencies up to 50 MHz
1.6 Minimum of 4 digital PID controllers (operating simultaneously with specification 1.5) capable of transforming 4 independent demodulator amplitude or phase measurements to controlled oscillator amplitude/frequency or low frequency voltage output
1.7 Minimum of 2 auxiliary input channels (in addition to
specification 1.1) with +/- 10 V range and 100 kHz bandwidth
1.8 Minimum of 2 auxiliary output channels with +/- 10 V range and 100 kHz bandwidth
1.9 Minimum of 2 high frequency outputs (in addition to 1.8) for sine frequency outputs with DC to 50 MHz analog bandwidth and +/-100 mV and +/-1 V voltage ranges into 50 Ohm output termination
1.10 External 10 MHz reference input
1.11 Minimum of 2 digital IO ports (in addition to 1.1,1.7, and 1.8) capable of serving as external reference inputs for setting demodulator frequencies or TTL outputs for driving external electronics with the internal demodulator frequencies
1.12 Flexible demodulator filtering with 1 ms to 100 s or greater time constant range and 6,12,18,24,30 (or more) dB/Octave filter slopes
1.13 Simultaneous logging of data to host PC capable of covering all demodulator output signals (e.g., 6 demodulators x XY data) and auxiliary input signals with system timestamps at 100 Samples/sec or better (continuous, indefinite recording)
1.14 BNC connectors on all specified inputs and outputs
1.15 Rack mountable fully enclosed instrument capable of hosting user interface and all signal processing with PC control of settings
1.16 USB 2.0 minimum host PC connection interface
1.17 110-120 VAC 60 Hz powered
