QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Questions

1. For the small slot on Aft Half Cover Detail E, can this be cut in as a secondary operation?

2. What material will be used to mold these parts? This is needed information to correctly design the molds for the specific application.

3. Can you elaborate on the surface finish required? Polish can be anywhere from very smooth to mirror finish.

Answers

1. The slots in the Aft Half do not need to be molded in. We are prepared to cut these as a secondary operation.

2. We plan on using a vinyl ester, 1" chopped fiberglass filled sheet molding compound. Cure temperature in the mold will be 250 - 275 F. Press platens will be set higher, likely in the 340 - 360 F range. Cure time is ~15 - 20 mins.

3. Surface finish is important to us for demolding only. Mirror polish is nice but not necessary. I would estimate in the 16 rms range will be sufficient.
