BRAND NAME SPECIFICATION
DTS SLICE Micro System
1300795622
BACKGROUND:
NUWCDIVNPT, Code 851 has been tasked to support the development and testing of a research underwater system. The test exposes the system to high shock during water entry. These shock values must be recorded to determine acceptable conditions of system survivability. The
Government’s requirement is for a standalone Data Acquisition System (DAS), as detailed in the
Requirements section below.
The Government needs to capture high-speed shock events during multiple tests, so it is critical to have a system (with required accessories) that meets all the requirements as detailed in the
Requirement Section below. The Government previously purchased the components required to build a SLICE MICRO standalone DAS and successfully tested its modules. The Government has already purchased hardware and cables that were designed specifically for the test system which accommodate this DAS. The Government currently uses SLICE software for this testing.
To support the continued development of this system, additional modules need to be procured that are compatible with the existing software and hardware.
Estimated Dollar Value: $138,992.40
REQUIREMENT:
The Government’s requirement is for a DAS that is modular in order to reduce the overall volume of the DAS. The entire system height must not exceed 3.75”, width must not exceed 5”, and length must not exceed 2.75” so that it can fit inside an Unmanned Underwater Vehicle
(UUV) with very limited available volume. Due to the high-speed shock event, the DAS requires very specific bandwidths and physical robustness as it must survive an impact. The system must have inputs for up to six (6) external static sensors and three (3) piezo-electric sensors to capture external measurable data. The system must be compatible with the existing
Government SLICEWare software. The following table further details the Government’s requirement:
Compatibility Capability Software Compatibility Calibration

BRAND NAME SPECIFICATION:
The Government has determined through research and prototype development that the standalone, ultra-small, modular, rugged SLICE MICRO DAS, from Diversified Technical
Systems, Inc. (DTS), as configured, is the only DAS that meets the demanding volume, bandwidth, and impact requirements of the project. The overall size of the system is 3.63” H, 4.88” W, and 2.52” L. The triaxial ARS and accelerometer are both built into respective modules, helping to keep the overall volume low to meet the Government’s volume requirements as detailed above. The MICRO Bridge (two (2) will be used per system) allow for up to six (6) external static sensors to connect and the MICRO IEPE allows up to three (3) piezo-electric sensors to connect. These connectors are sold by DTS and allow the user to mate their unique sensors to the DAS. The Government has previously run tests with one DAS fully installed and, in order to support the completion of the project, additional quantities are required. DTS’s
SLICE MICRO DAS is the only DAS that meets the Government’s size and capability requirements, and is compatible with the Government’s existing hardware and SLICEWare software.
RESELLERS:
DTS is a direct sales vendor. Other companies are able to resell the modules. At least two small businesses have been identified as being capable of meeting this requirement.
Requiring Department:
Based on the above, I recommend this acquisition be conducted on a Brand Name basis. I certify the technical data which form the basis of this justification are complete and accurate.
