Networked Attached Storage (NAS) System Salient Features and Minimum Specifications
1. Synthetic full backups – Incremental backups forever, restores in one step (no multi-step full+incr+incr+… necessary)
2. Architecture that delivers a separation of file I/O from back end I/) processing redundant array independent disk (RAID, data movement). Must scale filesystem processors and memory independently from block storage processors
3. System capable of supporting separate storage for production data and snapshot data with the ability for production file systems to be placed on different RAID arrays and disk types from the "SNAPPED" data
4. Global data deduplication (dedupe) – eliminates redundancy of backing up same user/OS files from each machine and repository
5. RAID Protection using RAID 1,0,1/05,6
6. Client-side dedupe – dramatically reduces CPU, RAM, Disk I/O and network bandwidth consumption on source servers
7. 10Gb Network Connection SFP+ form factor
8. Snapshot Protection Technology
9. Filesystem/folder recoveries accurately restore original structure at time of backup – no residual structure left over
10. Capability of multiple concurrent backup streams running, even within a single policy/job
– no artificial breakup of policies to force concurrency
11. Premium maintenance option to support 4hr replacement parts and with cleared, and qualified service personnel
12. Smart technology for spin down drive support to save energy when drives are not in use
13. Data flow and control flow must be separated so that all control functions are isolated from client access
14. Volume, Folder and File level restores from image backups for both Windows and Linux
15. File Compression support
16. 2.5" FORM FACTOR SAS BASED HARD DISK DRIVES WITH A CAPACITY OF 900
GB AND A SPIN RATE OF 10,000 RPM
17. SAN Protocol Supported for FC and ISCSI
18. NAS Protocols Support CIFS, NFS V3 & NFS V4
19. Remote Replication support
20. SSD Support
The NAS piece must include:
1) Minimum - Quantity (50) 2.5 in 900GB 10K RPM SAS drives 45TB Raw disk
2) Disk Retention 4 years
3) Quantity 2 - 4 port 8GB FC IO module - 4 ports to be used internally and 4 ports for SAN connectivity
4) Quantity 2 - 2 port 10GBE Optic IO Module (2 active for NAS - CIFS & NFS) Other 2 for Snaps, Clones and Internal software services)
5) Redundant power on all Disk Array Enclosures
6) All licensing and support required to for NAS Operating environment, NFS, CIFS, Snaps, cloning and local backup protection services (4 Years Premium Support))
7) Installation services to include Rack & Stack Services, NAS Configuration and Installation Integration with Data Duplication and Backup and Recover Manager
For the Data Deduplication piece to include:
1) Minimum 66TB SAS Storage (Raw Capacity)
2) Redundant power for each shelf
3) All licensing to support 66TB NFS, CIFS and Data Duplication
4) System and software support
5) Data Duplication and integration with backup software Networker
6) Installation and integration services with NAS
7) Backup and recovery and managers for system
8) Dual port 10GB SFP IO Module
9) 4 years disk retention, software and hardware support
10) Training must include Data Deduplication system administration and Implementation and application software use. Training shall be delivered electronically by interactive web based training. Training shall be brand name or equal to the Data Domain ValuePak (CE- VIDPKDDD) as offered by EMC2.
Training Salient characteristics:
-Description of data deduplication -Description of data deduplication operating environment -Identify and configure data duplication to include the use of snapshots, NFS and CIFS -perform data deduplication setup -access and copy data to system -Describe and configure a Virtual Tape Library (VTL) -Perform a backup using deduplication -Monitor system -Use application software to configure backup and system configuration -Data deduplication extended retention administration -Data deduplication Hardware installation
