QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Question 1: On sheet 4 in the BOM, Item No. 2 is listed as Rectangular Tube ASTM A36-8.0 x 5.0 x .375 wall thickness x 30.5 long. I have been checking with multiple sources and have not found the rectangular tube to be produced in 8.0 x 5.0. unless we go to the mill for a special order or we custom fabricate the rectangular tube. 8.0 x
4.0 or 8.0 x 6.0 are both available in the .375 wall thickness, please let me know if one of those sizes would be an acceptable alternative.
Question 2: Upon further review of these drawings I see your request for 8 x 5 rectangular tube for item #2. This is not a stock size so will be difficult to source in the quantity needed for this project through our standard channels. Do you have a source for this material? Is it possible to revise with 8 x 4 rectangular tube?
Answer (1 & 2): 8” x 6” with 0.5” thick tube can be used as a substitution.
Question 3: I'm told that Item 12 can't be made the way it's called out on the drawing because normally a stainless steel plate like this (with variable data/UID code) would be laser marked black characters & code on natural background (Style IV). The ‘Type C’ requirement is for stamping, which would not even be possible for a UID plate. Will the government accept alternatives?
Answer: You can ignore the UID Code. Just Laser mark the rest. ‘Serial No.’ on the Label Plates shall start from ‘5’
Question 4: In section view 8-2A, its shows the 0.350" depth at +.010/-0.000". To hold that we would need to mill the entire plate flat or spot face around the hole. Is spot facing permitted?
Answer: You don’t have to spot face that area. I don’t expect a flatness more than .01’’ over 1.0’’ dia. A tolerance of +.015/-.000 is acceptable to avoid spot facing.
