STATEMENT OF WORK
Microhardness Tester System Requirements
Intended use: The Microhardness Tester will be utilized to measure the hardness of metallic components that are either too small or too thin to test for hardness via a standard Rockwell methodology (A, B, C or Superficial). Testing of the hardness of these metallic components is necessary for any type of metallic component failure investigation as a means of verifying that the component was processed properly.
Physical Requirements:
· The hardness tester shall be a compact, bench-top design.
· The tester shall be integrated with a camera and personal computer.
· The tester shall have the camera embedded/integrated within the head housing, to eliminate accidental impact damage and misalignment as well as keeping it safe from dust and dirt.
· The tester shall be supplied with a dust cover that will protect the entire tester.
General Requirements:
· The tester shall be a newly manufactured unit, which has not been refurbished or previously used for demonstration.
· The tester shall be delivered with all necessary supplies and accessories required for installation and startup.
· On-site training shall be provided by a qualified vendor representative.
Microhardness Tester Requirements:
· The tester shall utilize deadweights only. No load cells are permitted.
· The tester shall have a minimum 6 position automatic/motorized turret that can house both a Vickers and Knoop indenter simultaneously.
· The tester shall include both a Vickers and Knoop indenter. Certifications shall accompany the indenters to indicate that they are in compliance with ASTM E384.
· The tester shall include 5X, 10X and 50X objective lenses.
· The tester shall have a manual X-Y stage.
· The tester shall be capable of performing tests anywhere from 10 g. - 2 kg.
· The tester shall be equipped with an automatic load selector.
· The tester shall have mounting holders to accommodate both 1.5 inch dia. and 2 inch dia. metallographic mounts.
· The tester shall have an appropriate leveling device for both the 1.5 inch dia. and 2 inch dia. metallographic mounts to ensure perpendicularity is obtained and maintained with the indenter during testing.
· The tester shall be coupled with a computer monitor to permit a magnified image of each impression.
· The tester shall be equipped with an automatic indentation symmetry check for both the Vickers and Knoop indenter.
· The tester shall have a lens on the front of the head to permit manual measurement of impressions.
· The tester shall be incorporated with digital micrometers.
· A test block shall be provided for both the Vickers and Knoop indenter. Each test block shall be calibrated in accordance with ASTM E92. Each block shall be for a 500 gram load, with an approximate hardness of Rockwell C (HRC) 35.
· The tester, after installation, start-up and training, shall be calibrated in accordance with ASTM E384.
Software Requirements:
· The system shall have automatic measurement of the hardness impression. A manual adjustment/positioning feature shall be included to permit movement of the filar lines while viewing the impression on the computer monitor.
· The hardness impression shall be automatically converted to an applicable Rockwell B or C value in accordance with ASTM E140
· The software shall be capable of residing on a stand-alone, non-networked computer with Windows 10 software included.
· The software shall have the capability to capture, edit and store all test data on the personal computer.
