GEAR PINION FORWARD SEALS

1.1 ABSTRACT

1.2 This item describes the requirement to provide two OEM Tech Reps and support to replace the Port and Starboard Main Diesel Engine (MDE) clutches, Pilot bearings and

Air Bag bearings and to replace the forward pinion input seals on the Main Reduction

Gears (MRG).

4.1 GOVERNMENT FURNISHED EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL/SERVICES

4.6 Government shall remove and disposal of all fluids and spent filter elements, estimate 600 gallons of fluid from the Port and Starboard Reduction Gears

Systems, work activities, including temporary installation of pad eyes.

4.7 Government will temporarily remove all interferences and equipment as required to complete work listed in this work specification, and re-install as original upon completion of repairs.

4.8 Government shall provide and weld temporary pad eyes as needed to complete work required. For estimating purposes, contractor shall assume 16 pad-eyes will be required for equipment disassembly and reassemble.

4.9 For all hot work activities, the Government shall provide gas free certificate from certified marine chemist and update daily utilizing a competent person

7.1 STATEMENT OF WORK:

7.2 The contractor shall provide all labor, material, tools, and special tools, special equipment, remove and replace all interferences to perform this work item.

7.3 The contractor shall provide the services of EMD, FALK authorized repair and overhaul company and authorized EMD, FALK technicians.

7.4 The contractor shall contact the ABS/USCG Inspectors for all inspections and testing that requires their attendance.

7.5 A minimum of two tech reps shall board the vessel with tools, parts and the necessary equipment to perform the following work on the Port and Starboard Reduction

Gears and clutches:

• Cover and protect turbo inlet.

• Dissemble & remove clutches from Port and Starboard Main

Engines.

• Dissemble and remove clutch drums on Port and Starboard reduction gears

• Heat and pull input hubs on Port and Starboard (In place, without removing Pinions from cases)

• Remove input seals on Main Pinions

• Inspect and report findings of seal areas on Main Pin ions

• Install new seal and reinstall hubs and clutch drums

• Remove & replace pilot bearings.

• Remove & replace Air Bar bearings.

• Install Falk Marine Air Clutches (Unit Certified) on Port and

Starboard reduction gear.

• Remove & replace rotary seals.

• Remove & replace air supply hoses & fittings on clutches.

• Remove & replace seals gaskets & nylon lock nuts on pinions.

• Measure clutch drum surfaces. (Inspect and report findings)

7.6 Upon reassembly test run the gears for a maximum of four (4) hours.

7.7 During the final sea trial testing, the contractor shall have present, one of two technical reps that completed the reduction gear repairs, to witness operation and verify repairs are satisfactory.

7.8 Prove all work to satisfaction of the attending ABS Surveyor, the Chief and

Port Engineer.

8.1 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Enterprise-Wide contractor Manpower Reporting Application (ECMRA)

The contractor shall report contractor labor hours (including subcontractor labor hours) required for performance of services provided under this contract for the Military Sealift

Command via a secure data collection site. Contracted services excluded from reporting are based on Product Service Codes (PSCs). The excluded PSCs are:

1) W, Lease/Rental of Equipment;

2) X, Lease/Rental of Facilities;

3) Y, Construction of Structures and Facilities;

4) S, Utilities ONLY; and

5) V, Freight and Shipping ONLY.

The contractor is required to completely fill in all required data fields using the following web address https://doncmra.nmci.navy.mil

Reporting inputs will be for the labor executed during the period of performance during each Government fiscal year (FY), which runs October 1 through September 30. While inputs may be reported any time during the FY, all data shall be reported no later than
