2.1 Enclosure Physical Characteristics. The physical characteristics of each PVBS phase bridge enclosure shall be in accordance with 2.1.1 through 2.1.4.
2.1.1 Stacking Provisions. PVBS phase bridge enclosures shall have a geometric configuration that permits stacking without harm to the enclosures or contents. Design shall permit the stacking of two PVBS bridges minimum.
2.1.2 Maximum Dimensions. The maximum dimensions of each PVBS phase bridge enclosure (excluding connectors, switches, and feet) shall not exceed 5 inches (127 mm) in width, 2 inches (51 mm) in height, and 3 inches (76 mm) in depth.
2.1.3 Weight. The maximum weight of each PVBS phase bridge shall not exceed 1 pound (454 g). The equipment shall be designed to preclude tipping during normal handling and operation.
2.1.4 Connections and Controls. Each phase bridge included in the PVBS shall have two BNC(f) input connectors labeled 1 and 2 and a single BNC(f) output connector labeled OUTPUT. Each phase bridge shall have a momentary switch labeled SHORTING SWITCH, which will be used when performing the AUTO ZERO function of a digital phase standard. Each phase bridge shall have a screw driver adjustment labeled ADJUST that will be used for balancing the bridge when voltages are applied to the input connectors 1 and 2.
2.2 Transit Case. The PVBS shall be provided with a hard transit case and shall conform to the requirements as specified in 2.2.1 through 2.2.4
2.2.1 Cover, Transit Case. The PVBS transit case shall have a cover that can be closed and fastened. Fasteners shall allow for quick opening. If cover is removable, fasteners shall not interfere with cover removal.
2.2.2 Stacking Provisions, Transit Case. PVBS transit case shall have a geometric configuration that permits stacking without harm to the enclosures or contents. Design shall permit the stacking of two PVBS transit cases minimum.
2.2.3 Handles, Transit Case. The PVBS transit case shall include one or more handles. The handles shall be such that the load distribution per handle shall not exceed 10 pounds (4.5 kg).
2.2.4 Stowage Phase Bridges and Cabling, Transit Case. The PVBS transit case shall have provisions for stowage for four PVBS phase bridges and three inter-connecting coaxial cables. Stowage shall not adversely affect carrying stability of the equipment and shall be contained in a manner that prevents damage to the equipment during transit.
2.3 Environmental Requirements. The PVBS shall meet the environmental requirements as specified in 2.3.1.
2.3.1 Temperature and Humidity. The PVBS shall meet the conditions below:
TEMPERATURE (C)
RELATIVE HUMIDITY (%)
Operating
10 to 30
10 to 90 5
Operating
30 to 40
10 to 70 5
Non-Operating
-40 to 70
Not Controlled
2.4 Marking and Identification. The PVBS shall be in accordance with paragraphs 2.4.1 and 2.4.4 below.
2.4.1 ID Plate. The PVBS transit case shall have a metal ID plate (placard) specifying the instrument model number, serial number, nomenclature, manufacturer, and FSCM/CAGE number. The serial number shall match the serial numbers of the phase bridges provided.
2.4.2 ID Card. The PVBS transit case shall have an ID card on the inside of the case lid. The ID card shall have a picture of all of the items contained in the PVBS transit case. The ID card shall have the model number of the PVBS at the top of the card and each item within the case will be identified by model number (or part number if no model number is available) and nomenclature. Serial numbers shall not be included.
2.4.3 Calibration Label. The contractor shall affix a calibration label to each PVBS transit case specifying the serial number, date that the instrument was calibrated, calibration interval (next date due), and manufacturer or lab performing the calibration. The government reserves the right to extend the calibration interval (next date due) without any impact or consequence to the manufacturer.
2.4.4 Warranty Label. The contractor shall affix a warranty label to each PVBS transit case specifying instrument model number, serial number, nomenclature, manufacturer, FSCM/CAGE number, contract number, and warranty expiration date.
2.5 Performance. Performance requirements for the PVBS shall be in accordance with the sub-paragraphs below. These requirements comprise the full performance requirement for the PVBS. All performance specifications shall apply with a laboratory temperature of 15 to 30°C and a relative humidity of 20 to 60%. Where applicable (e.g. two-sided) specifications should be stated with a coverage factor k=2 producing an interval having a level of confidence of approximately 95%.
2.5.1 1:1 Resistive Phase Bridge. The PVBS 1:1 resistive phase bridge shall have a nominal loading of 50 kΩ at inputs 1 and 2 at bridge balance. The phase error at balance shall be within 1 m° to a frequency of 1 kHz, and 2 m° with a frequency range of 1 kHz to 50 kHz.
2.5.2 1:1 Capacitive Phase Bridge. The PVBS 1:1 capacitive phase bridge shall have a nominal loading of 900 pF at inputs 1 and 2 at bridge balance. The phase error at balance shall be within 2 m° with a frequency range of 1 kHz to 50 kHz, and 8 m° with a frequency range of 50 kHz to 200 kHz.
2.5.3 10:1 Capacitive Phase Bridge. The PVBS 10:1 capacitive phase bridge shall have a nominal loading of 900 pF at input 1 and 90 pF at input 2 at bridge balance. The phase error at balance shall be within 2 m° with a frequency range of 5 kHz to 50 kHz, and 8 m° with a frequency range of 50 kHz to 200 kHz.
2.5.4 100:1 Capacitive Phase Bridge. The PVBS 100:1 capacitive phase bridge shall have a nominal loading of 1000 pF at input 1 and 10 pF at input 2 at bridge balance. The phase error at balance shall be within 2 m° with a frequency range of 5 kHz to 50 kHz, and 8 m° with a frequency range of 50 kHz to 200 kHz.
2.5.5 Inter-connecting Coaxial Cables. The PVBS shall be supplied three inter-connecting coaxial cables. Two of the coaxial cables shall have BNC(m) connectors and the third shall have a BNC(m) connector on one end and a dual banana plug on the other end. Cable length and material shall be designed to minimize capacitive loading while still allowing easy connection between PVBS phase bridges and other test equipment.
