2. The government shall provide 480 Volt 3 Phase 100 Amp. Electrical power for the contractor’s flushing equipment.

3. Shore crane support for the flushing on the vessel will be provided for the contractor at NUWC, Keyport WA. The contractor shall be required to provide an equipment layout plan including the lifting weights of the equipment required to be lifted.

4. The contractor shall be required to provide the government a specific work plan for the flushing of the crane to include the plan for the removal of and separate cleaning of individual components with crane support needs as required.

5. The Flushing rig/system shall include pump, heater, filter, and flow meter, and is capable of maintaining the required flow rates per Table 1, and oil temperatures required in Para. 15.

6. A 10 micron return filter shall be installed in the return flow from the circuit (loop) being flushed and clean filter elements will be replaced with new as needed.

7. All piping and hoses shall be disconnected and drained prior to flushing to remove any standing particles.

8. Drain the reservoir, sample test the oil, retain the oil for possible re-use. Open and hand wipe clean the reservoir. Replace the reservoir cover gasket with a new gasket, close the reservoir.

Replenish the reservoir oil using the oil removed if sampled satisfactory for the flushing. Any new replenishment or make-up oil shall be the same hydraulic fluid used in the crane, (Mobil DTE-10, ISO 46, or equal).

9. Except for shut off valves, which should not compromise attainment of required flushing flow rates, all other hydraulic valves and hydraulic components shall be either removed or jumpered out so as not to interfere with maintaining minimum flushing flow rates.

10. All Hydraulic winch and swing drive motors, luffing cylinders, control valves, and other complex valves and devices that will not be properly flushed if left in the flushing loop, or could possibly restrict flow, or could be damaged by contaminants dislodged during the flushing shall be removed from the circuit, opened, cleaned, and/or flushed separately, obtaining the same cleanliness compliance required for the system. The telescoping cylinder will be flushed as best as possible, separately while in place.

11. Valves and components removed are to be capped, plugged or bagged to protect them from further contamination and are not to be reinstalled until the system flush is complete.

12. Maintenance of system cleanliness is emphasized. At no time shall any internal parts of hydraulic system piping, valves or components be left open/exposed to atmospheric contamination.

13. Spool pieces and/or flushing plugs shall be used in conjunction with hydraulic valves and components, as needed, to ensure pressure drops and restrictions do not inhibit proper flushing and attainment of Table 1 required flow rates.

14. Low pressure portions of the system piping shall not be subjected to flushing pressures exceeding their normal operational pressure. Flushing pressure shall be less than or equal to maximum system working pressure, as needed to attain requisite flow rates.

15. Flushing oil temperature shall also be varied (between 140 and 160 degrees F) during flushing to loosen internal scale, and the system piping shall be cooled down to ambient temperature after the flushing to avoid subsequent condensation formation in piping prior to the final filling.

16. During flushing, constant monitoring of the flushing oil must be maintained in order to determine the contamination level. Filtering shall continue until the fluid entering the return flow filter meets the particle population requirements. All samples will be taken at a point close to and prior to return filter.

17. Flushing of the system shall continue until the fluid entering the filter installed on the return side of the flushing pump complies with ISO cleanliness level 17/15/13 in accordance with ISO 4406.

18. The contractor shall sample the crane’s fluid and test prior to commencing the flushing.

Circulate oil through the flushing loop at the required flow rate from TABLE 1 for a duration of not less than the flushing time indicated in following formula A, but not less than 1 hour.

t = 20 x V / Q t = Minimum flushing time – minutes V = Total system volume – gallons Q = flow rate - GPM

CHECK POINT: Issue a Condition Found Report, (CFR), reporting all sampling results upon completion of flushing.

19. Remove all jumpers and components that were used in flushing of the circuit. Install all hydraulic, valves, pumps, and components removed for flushing. Restore system to operational configuration.

20. Replenish the fluid to normal operating level upon completion of the flushing.

21. Wrap all hydraulic hose fittings with Densyl tape or equivalent.
