STATEMENT OF WORK

STATEMENT OF WORK

MK 809 MOD 0 SHIPPING & STORAGE CONTAINER ORDALT

I. The Navy has 26 MK 809 MOD 0 shipping and storage containers that are used for shipping and storage assembled in Tucson, AZ.

II. There are three modifications which this SOW addresses:

1. Replace the restraint block with a new redesigned restraint block, plus adds a reinforcing plate, to the saddle weldment’s aft end underside.

2. Replace any saddle weldment and strap factory applied adhesive backed silicone pads with new pads that are secured to the saddle weldment and straps using a three part bonding agent

3. Dry film lubricant will be applied to each quick release pin grip length. An o‐ring will be added to each quick release pin grip length III. These modifications must be completed in accordance with ORDALT 18136. Below is a summary of ORDALT 18136.

The Naval PHST Center, Picatinny PHST requires a modification of the Mk 809 Mod 0 container. This modification is necessary to replace the restraint block with a new redesigned restraint block, plus add a reinforcing plate, to the saddle weldment’s aft end underside. The new and added parts are intended to prevent the saddle weldment critical welds from cracking. Previously, when the container’s Mk 185 Lift Adapter restraint bolts where tightened, a large bending moment was imparted onto the saddle weldment. It has been determined that the bending moment was the cause of some saddle weldment critical welds cracking. The container tested with the new restraint block and reinforcing plate demonstrated that the new and added parts prevent the welds from cracking.

Additionally, the ORDALT replaces any saddle weldment and strap factory applied adhesive backed silicone pads with new pads that are secured to the saddle weldment and straps using a three part bonding agent. The original adhesive backed silicone pads have demonstrated to fall off the saddle weldment and straps. The bonding agent has proven to hold saddle weldment and straps silicone rubber pads in place in other like containers experiencing the same environmental conditions. Furthermore, to prevent quick release pins from producing grey/black metallic dust, which can be harmful to the commodity packed in the container, dry film lubricant will be applied to each quick release pin grip length. An o‐ring will be added to each quick release pin grip length to reduce longitudinal movement within the saddle weldment and strap assembly. Also, oversized holes are added to allow a standard socket drive to be used to install and tighten the nuts. SOW Mk 809 Mod 0 ORDALT April 26, 2016
