CLOSED-CYCLE OPTICAL CRYOSTAT FOR SCANNING RAMAN, PHOTOLUMINESCENCE MICROSCOPY, AND ELECTRICAL TRANSPORT
DESCRIPTION: This system consists of a closed-cycle cryostat for optical microscopy that has very low vibration at the sample and can reach a sample temperature of 4 K or below. A compressor, cryostat, control electronics, and integrated vacuum compatible microscope objective must be included. Positioners within the cryostat to move the sample in all three dimensions relative to a microscope objective must be included. Additional sample space must be included that is compatible with wire-bonded samples with corresponding electrical feedthroughs. The system must also have the ability to sweep the sample temperature over the full temperature range and rapidly sweep the temperature over smaller temperature ranges with minimal optical drift.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Sample temperature range: 4 K or below to 350 K with temperature control
· Temperature stability: better than 20 mK.
· Cool down time to base temperature 4 K: 4 hours or less.
· Temperature Stabilization Time: 2 min or less for 50 K temperature change
· Temperature Stability: 2 mK or better.
· Cooling power at 4K: 100 mW or greater
· Vibration at the sample: Less than 100 nm mounted on positioners
· Drift:
· Less than 1 µm/K for full temperature range
· Less than 20 mm for full temperature range
· Optics:

· Sample mounted to allow for working distance less than 5 mm
· Uncoated fused silica window for 200 nm - 2000 nm wavelength experiments
· Internal Vacuum Compatible Optics
· Sample mount to allow for XYZ scanning of sample in front of internal objective.
· No windows between objective lens and sample
· Temperature controlled objective lens at/or above room temperature
· Specifications: 100x magnification, NA of 0.75 or greater, and a working distance of 1 mm or greater.
· Cryogenic Compatible Sample Positioning: o Independent X, Y, Z, control

· At least two (2) microwave/RF coax feedthroughs with the coax terminated in the sample space. This wiring must operate at frequencies up to 5 GHz.
· Contractor must provide software with a graphical user interface (GUI), to control the system from a single computer.
· Contractor must provide control electronics to include:
· Positioning controllers.
· Temperature controllers.
· Computer for interfacing with the temperature and position controllers via a graphical user interface (GUI).
· The sample/experimental volume:
· Must accommodate horizontal and vertical mounting of samples.
