ATTACHMENT 1
Self-Contained Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers Specifications
Naval Research Laboratory Stennis has the requirement for the purchase of four (4) four-beam acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) for making deep current observations. The four 75-kHz ADCP instruments with surface-wave firmware, associated gear, and software must be capable of measuring currents in the upper 2000 m with very high accuracy and be designed to withstand long period of deployments (several months to nearly two years). This is a capital-procurement program (CPP) purchase that has been approved by the Naval Research Laboratory and when combined with equipment secured on other procurements will make up the Deep Current and Density Observation (Deep-C) System.
The Self Contained (SC) Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) must be as follows:
a.) The ADCP instruments must be 4 beam transducers capable of measuring profiles up to 600 meters, for the 75-kHz instrument. Must have 1-Hz ping rate and 4-32 m variable depth-bin size, 4-degree-beam width and 20-degree-beam angle.
b.) Must be capable of accuracies of 1% of the water velocity with a resolution of 0.5 cm/s.
c.) The profilers must be able to measure currents with speeds of 5 m/s or higher, with option allowing the user to choose a depth range and a depth cell size. A choice of the narrow- and broad-bandwidth profiling options must be also available.
d.) The profilers must be rated for 1500-m water depth and operate in waters with temperatures ranging between -5oC and 45oC.
e.) The profilers must be self-contained (internally recorded data – internal memory of at least 2 GB) and must withstand long-term deployments in fresh and salty water environments, and must contain ancillary instrumentation of: temperature, depth, tilt/roll, and flux gate type compass, and also four alkaline- battery packs. The pressure sensor must be rated at 1500 m.
f.) The main body must have the correct diameter and mounting configuration to ensure proper fit in the existing NRL buoys.
g.) They must accommodate an additional case containing extra batteries often required for long-term deployments.
h.) The profilers must be furnished with both wireless and serial (R232) connections.
i.) Software for programing and data download must be provided and be easy to operate.
Four 75-kHz ADCP instruments with surface-wave firmware, associated gear, and software will be delivered within 4-6 weeks after the receipt of order.
