68-5058-16 – Technical Specifications (Spence Albright)
Micro-Fabrication CNC Metallic circuits used for interaction with an electron beam to generate coherent electromagnetic radiation are proportional to the wavelength of operation. The higher the frequency, the smaller the structure. The following list of specifications for the requested Vertical Machining Center (VMC) is critical for the successful fabrication of our components and devices.
We require a CNC VMC machine that can meet the following specifications:
1. The VMC shall be capable of spindle speeds of 24,000 rpm or greater
2. The main spindle motor shall have a continuous rating of 2.0 HP or greater
3. The VMC shall have 3 controlled axes: X,Y and Z
4. The VMC shall operate on Fanuc 31i-B5 control or equivalent, because this matches up current systems capabilities and training
5. The external dimensions must be no larger than the following to allow for facilities constraints Height: 92" Width: 62" Depth: 113"
6. The axis travel dimensions must meet or exceed the following:
X: 19.68" Y: 15.74" Z: 12.9"
7. The VMC shall use a BT-30 spindle taper
8. The VMC shall have a 21 position or greater tool changer
9. The VMC shall have positioning accuracy of .0002"/12" or less in X,Y and Z travels Repeatability must be at most +/- 0.000078"
10. The VMC shall allow input command increments of 0.0001"
11. The VMC shall allow rigid tapping at a speed of at least 5000 rpm
12. The coolant tank must be at least 200L for adequate performance
13. The VMC shall be capable of compensating for thermal changes within its structure
14. The VMC shall include the following pre-installed options:
A. Chip Flush System for debris removal from the cutting compartment B. LED Work Light in the cutting compartment C. Renshaw OPM 400 or equivalent edge finding system for small to medium machines: a probe for accurate tool setting during process measurements, complete 360 degree optical infrared transmission, shall have a battery life during continuous operation of at least 100 hours (a year in standby), a 4 mm stylus, and onsite training provided D. Renshaw NC4 or equivalent auto-centering laser tool setter system optical probe for tool holder: to allow for non-contact tool setting and tool breakage detection, designed for small tool applications, a repeatability of + 1µm 2σ for accuracy, a failsafe air switch for contamination prevention, external probe status indication, associated software, and onsite training provided E. 2 Gig Fast Data Server Card F. High Speed Machining Package, shall include: Nano smoothing, jerk control, 1000 block look ahead ability for high speed processes, tool center point control, inverse feed time, 3D cutter compensation, 2 megabyte of numerical control memory G. Air-Thru Spindle, to accommodate a high-speed spindle attachment as a tool selection H. Spider Cool Coolant Nozzle System, or equivalent automated coolant nozzle control I. 4 Hardware M Functions, four separate switchable solenoids using machine code to activate other machine required accessories J. Triple Alarm Light, to give users an external observable system status warning light assembly K. Thru Spindle Coolant with 20 Micron Filtration to aid in use with smaller cutting tools
15. Haimer Power Clamp Economic-Plus Tool Shrink System or equivalent with 30 and 40 taper adapters: combined clamping and cooling period of less than one minute, diameter of shrink range from 1/8” to 1 1/8” at least, provide chucks in the 1/8” 3/8”, 7/16”, and ½”, holding tool for 40 taper, and a cooling adapter for at least 1/8” to ¼” chucks
16. Haimer TD2009 Economic Tool Balancer System or equivalent: built in to a solid frame of at least 950 lbs. of total weight for stability, one to two planes of operation, can add or remove for balancing, include a calibration dummy, a set of balancing rings, an internal computer with the ability to store info on at least 4500 tool types, an external scale to measure tool holders and communicate with the balancer’s software, a connecting arm or fixture for the scale, an external p/c mounting arm or bracket to allow the interface with a key board and monitor
17. The VMC shall operate on 208V 3ph electrical power, may require the addition of a transformer to meet this requirement
