Clean Room Specifications

NRL

is seeking to purchase two Class 10,000 prefabricated cleanrooms with the following floor plan:

1. The footprint of the rooms must be 23ft x 15ft and 15ft x 20ft.

These are external dimensions.

The open bay area in which these rooms will be assembled is only 26ft wide, which will allow only 3ft of external access space around the larger of the two rooms:

2ft on the left side and 1ft on the right side.

2. The internal dimensions of the two rooms cannot be smaller than 22ft x

14ft and 14ft x 19ft.

3. The two machines that will be placed in these clean rooms are large:

they will be installed before the clean rooms.

The clean rooms must therefore be able to be assembled around the machines.

The machines will have power supply cables, the location of which is currently uncertain and will not be finalized until the machines are installed.

The location of wall perforations to accommodate these power cables is therefore

TBD.

4. The machines require a interior ceiling height of no less than 11ft.

The open bay area which will house the rooms can accommodate an additional 2ft of headroom for infrastructure.

Therefore the exterior height of the clean rooms, including all infrastructure, cannot exceed 13ft.

5. The clean rooms and supporting infrastructure must be a complete system, as close to turnkey as possible.

All walls, ceilings, ducts, A/C units, air filtering units and filters, lighting, electrical wall sockets, gas quick disconnects, water hose connections, air shower doorways, downdraft workbench must all be included as part of the complete system.

Only the floors are not required:

these will be the existing concrete floors of the open bay area.

NRL

will assemble the rooms and supporting infrastructure, and then make all electrical, gas and water connections.

6. Each room must have gas quick disconnects for nitrogen, oxygen, argon and compressed air.

The gas lines to these must be routed to a convenient place close to the Ramp (see floor plan above) so that

NRL

can complete the connection to the lab supply.

7. Each room must have integral ceiling lighting, and at least standard

110V duplex wall sockets spaced around the walls.

As with the gas lines, all electrical hookups should be in a convenient location for

NRL

to make the connections to the lab supply.

8. Each room must have a downdraft work table that is roughly 6ft wide and

3ft deep.

9. Access to each room must be through an air shower with a width similar to a standard doorway (or larger).

For the larger (23ft x 15ft) room, this air shower must be located in the bottom right hand corner as shown on the floor plan.

For the smaller (15ft x 20ft) room, this air shower must be located in the top right hand corner as shown on the floor plan.

10. Each room will require tons of A/C (30 tons total).

The air conditioning must include dehumidification capability that can be controlled by a humidistat that is independent of the thermostat, so that the relative humidity can be controlled over the range 30%-‐60%.

The rooms will normally operate at ~70°F.

The A/C units must be located in the area labeled “Ramp,” which is directly above the room.

This area is adjacent to an exterior wall, which is where the excess heat will be discarded.

NRL

would prefer, if possible, an A/C system with indoor and outside heat exchangers (like the central A/C system in a house), as this would allow

NRL

to place the outdoor unit in a more convenient location

(such as up on the building roof).

11. If possible (not a requirement, but rather as a separate line item), NRL would like the option of having the vendor perform an in-‐house installation.

In such a scenario

NRL

would then only have to perform electrical and gas hookup to the lab supply.

For this, any workers furnished by the vendor would have to comply with

NRL

security requirements, including providing proof of

US

citizenship.

12. Typically prefabricated clean rooms can be made of various materials whose desirable properties increase with increasing cost.

If a selection of wall materials are available from the vendor, then

NRL

would like the option be made available to upgrade to superior materials.
