AMENDMENT 0001
Questions from potential vendors and NSWC Crane’s answers:
Question 1: Could you define the frequency range over which you want to measure the Storage modulus and Loss modulus (or Loss Tangent)?
Answer 1: If the vendor’s technique for measuring the Storage modulus and Loss modulus relies on a frequency dependent measurement, then a range of 0.1 Hz to 20 kHz will be acceptable.
Question 2: Based upon the request, ‘The AFM allows you to easily set-up and run a sequence of measurements unattended while automatically varying parameters without writing code’, we assume that the system must include software-controlled motorized stage for both XY and Z (engage/withdraw). Is this correct?
Answer 2: Having an AFM with a motorized stage is not a requirement for this procurement. If a vendor offers a system that has a built-in motorized stage, however, then including software that controls their motorized stage in X, Y, and Z would be acceptable.
Question 3: SSRM is a carrier profiling method making use of a logarithmic amplifier. Please confirm.
Answer 3: Yes. SSRM stands for Scanning Spreading Resistance Microscopy, which is a technique that uses a logarithmic amplifier to measure current flowing through a tip into a semiconductor substrate.
Question 4: Please clarify if the SCM mode requested is an additional mode, different from the sMIM mode, or if sMIM can be considered to already include SCM capability, since it also measures the ‘C’ and ‘dC/dV’ signals, which can be used for carrier profiling purposes.
Answer 4: Yes, the requested SCM mode is an additional mode. That being said, if the ‘C’ and dC/dV’ data collected through sMIM is of equal or better quality compared to data collected using SCM, then only offering the sMIM mode is acceptable. The vendor is responsible for explaining how their proposed instrument meets all of the Performance Specification listed in Section 1.0 of the solicitation.
Question 5: Please confirm that the method for ‘Nanomechanical Analysis Tools (Mapping and Point Measurements)’ should measure all listed properties (Elastic modulus, Storage modulus, Loss modulus, Loss Tangent, Deformation, Energy dissipation) in a single, and not multiple modes covering partial items only.
Answer 5: Collecting all the data (listed above) using a single mode or multiple modes is acceptable.
