>Radar sourced track activation >APS-143 (native) sourced track activation >Radar Options >Radar Controller items. I.E.:

Primary Mode Selection Settings Adjustments (Tilt, Gain, CFAR, etc.)

Sector Setup >Imaging Modes to include Minotaur Map Display setup

4.2Replicate all radar modes (Altitudes of 500' to no less than 14,000'):
4.2.1• SEARCH: The available Search Mode ranges (respective antenna rotations / power out) are:

o 10NM (60 rpm/2 watts) *selection results in Search Short mode at 25NM (not required, mode is being replaced with an Air Search Mode in 19.2.#) o 25NM (60 rpm/204 watts) o 50NM (12 rpm/123 watts) o 100NM (12 rpm/248 watts) o 200NM (12 rpm/128 watts)

Green Screen on Minotaur Map Display

4.2.2 • ESTD: Enhanced Small Target Detection at a range of 60NM (& 30?) only.

o The Scan rate is: 30 RPM.

This is the primary search mode used for surface target detections:

o ESTD has the highest power output (279 watts).

o ESTD uses a 15 nanosecond compressed pulse, resulting in a range resolution cell of about 2.3 meters, which is four times better than the standard search mode (right-click option on display).

Green Screen on Minotaur Map Display

4.2.3 • WEATHER: Weather mode in ranges of (at 12 rpm for all ranges):

o 25NM o 50NM o 100NM o 200NM The PPI Raw video is color coded as either black (<0.04 inch/hr rain), green, yellow, or red (most severe: >0.5 inch/hr rain) to reflect rain intensities.

Video of Storm Cells present on Raw Radar PPI and directly into Minotaur Map Display as a green screen display.

> Does not use "Show Primary Radar PPI" as in HC-130J (not a selectable option).

> Range, Altitude, & Tilt dependent

4.2.4 • SART: Search and Rescue Transponder (SART) operates in ranges of 25 or 50NM. In SART Mode the radar receive frequency is offset to ensure that the only return displayed is the reply from a transponder transmitting in response to a radar query it has received. The radar transmits pulses at 9375 MHz with power suitable for this interrogation to take place. The radar displays the detected 12-response pulses (received on 9310 MHz) with the closest pulse identifying the range of the transponder. Azimuth to the transponder correlates to the display presentation.

NOTE:

Minotaur does not process SART Mode results. SART Mode returns are only viewable in the raw radar video APS-143 PPI feed (Feed 5).

4.2.5 • ISAR: Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (this location or this track):

This mode utilizes the Doppler movement (more being better) of the target to create a series of four ISAR images. The aircraft speed has no impact in ISAR performance; however the antenna to target aspect (the difference in degrees between the antenna look angle and the vessel track) should be 5-30 degrees off target track (or the reciprocal). If the target is pitching, the image is better from bow/stern aspect. If the target is rolling, the image may be better from a quarter aspect.

o The ISAR Mode permits classification of maritime targets with a 1 meter (3.3’) range resolution.

o The minimum and maximum ranges are 2 NM and 66 NM, respectively.

-If attempt to ISAR a target greater than 66NM:

>Green screen will disappear >ISAR Viewer Window builds >Warning in lower left of Minotaur Map Display: "Invalid Target Range" appears >Returns to previous operational mode o Image product results in a single image that combines ISAR & Range Profile product.

o Ongoing combined ISAR/Range Profile image product seen in both Raw Radar PPI & within Minotaur Imagery Viewer window..

o Combined ISAR/Range Profile image product will auto-tag to respective track that ISAR was performed on & into the Imagery Table.

o If no track recognized (i.e. ISAR this location), combined ISAR/Range Profile image product will post into the Imagery Table only.

4.2.6 • SPOT SAR (this location or this track):

In this mode the radar antenna is continuously pointed toward the region being mapped. A target or a target area of interest is illuminated by the radar and a snapshot of data spanning the synthetic aperture is acquired, producing very high resolution images.

Resolution is provided for the following squared image areas:

o 1 meter (0.28 NM) o 2 meters (0.55 NM) o 4 meters (1.1 NM) o 8 meters (2.2 NM) o Ongoing SPOT SAR image product seen in both Raw Radar PPI & within the Image Viewer window..

o SPOT SAR image product will plot onto Minotaur Map Display & into Imagery Table.

o Imagery Table will permit Minotaur Map Display check box to display or not display SPOT SAR image product.

4.2.7 • STRIP SAR (this location or this track):

This mode provides a continuous strip of imagery (scrolling map) parallel to the route of flight, on either side of the aircraft. This mode is operational at all altitudes but highest quality is achieved above 14,000 feet at aircraft ground speeds of 180 knots.

Resolution is provided for the following swath widths::

o 1 meter (0.28 NM) o 2 meters (0.55 NM) o 4 meters (1.1 NM) o 8 meters (2.2 NM) o Ongoing STRIP SAR image product seen in both Raw Radar PPI & within Minotaur Map Display.

>Raw Radar PPI = continuous scrolling strip build >Minotaur Map Display = addition of each individual strip patch, as recieved from the radar, onto the map display o STRIP SAR image product will plot onto Minotaur Map Display & into Imagery Table.

o Imagery Table will permit Minotaur Map Display check box to display or not display each individual strip patch STRIP SAR image product.

4.2.8 • STRIP SAR (WIDE) (this location or this track):

This mode provides a continuous strip of imagery (scrolling map) parallel to the route of flight, on either side of the aircraft. This mode is operational at all altitudes but highest quality is achieved above 14,000 feet at aircraft ground speeds of 180 knots.

Resolution is provided for the following swath widths:

o 4 meters (8.8 NM) o 8 meters (17.7 NM) o 16 meters (35.2 NM) o 32 meters (70.4 NM) o Ongoing STRIP SAR image product seen in both Raw Radar PPI & within Minotaur Map Display.

>Raw Radar PPI = continuous scrolling strip build >Minotaur Map Display = addition of each individual strip patch, as recieved from the radar, onto the map display o STRIP SAR image product will plot onto Minotaur Map Display & into Imagery Table.

o Imagery Table will permit Minotaur Map Display check box to display or not diplay each individual strip patch STRIP SAR image products

4.2.9 • RANGE PROFILE (this location or this track):

Range Profile uses a high-resolution waveform to sample a designated range swath and generate an A-Scope display of target amplitude versus sample range. Target size is estimated by calculating the signal strength left and right of the center spike.

o The minimum and maximum ranges are 2 NM and 66 NM, respectively with 1-meter range resolution.

o Image product results in a single image of Range Profile product.

o Ongoing Range Profile image product seen in both Raw Radar PPI & within Minotaur Imagery Viewer window.

o Range Profile image product will auto-tag to respective track that Range Profile was performed on & into the Imagery Table.

o If no track recognized (i.e. Range Profile this location), Range Profile image product will post into the Imagery Table only.

4.3 Video Process

The options under this field work in conjunction with the upper PPI Video Display window only and have no impact on the Minotaur Map Display.

Available adjustments apply only to Search and ESTD Modes.

4.3.1 The processing options discussed below (in the order of least to most) continue to build upon each other as further processing options are selected.

• None: When selected all filter processing is removed.

• PI Only: Pulse Integration (PI), considers an average return strength over many pulses.

Random events like noise will not occur in every pulse and therefore when averaged, will have a reduced effect as compared to actual targets that will be in very pulse.

• Log Ftc: Logarithmic Fast Time Constant (Log Ftc) emphasizes signals of short duration to produce discrimination against the low frequency components of clutter.

• CFAR: Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) is a digital selectable process in which the detection threshold level can be adjusted on the basis of measured noise level to maintain the false alarm rate at the optimum value. Although selectable here, actual CFAR value adjustments are made within the Settings Panel of the Radar Controller sub tab (see below).

• Scan Integration: Scan Integration works in conjunction with Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) to reduce sea clutter. It makes use of the CFAR detection threshold level to bottom clip the digital radar return. The data is temporarily stored in memory bins where it is repeatedly scanned (five out of eight) to filter out unwanted clutter. This produces a continuous, bright, clutter-free display. When SI is on, the radar only displays returns that persist in five of the previous eight scans. This feature requires the radar to be in Ground Stabilized mode. It is intended to detect slow moving targets in a noisy environment.

4.3.2 Sensitivity Time Control

Sensitivity Time Control (STC) is used to attenuate the very strong returns from targets in close proximity to the aircraft radar receiver. In another words, signals from targets close to the receiver are not amplified as much as signals from further out. Without this signal attenuation, the receiver would routinely saturate due to the stronger returns close in to the aircraft. The gain is set to rise exponentially. STC is used for all search, ESTD, SART, and Weather Modes. No auto adjustment is used for SART and Weather modes.

STC helps to remove close in noise around the center of the display which is a characteristic of sea clutter returns. The STC control is a manual means of reducing gain close in on the center of the display and is MSO selectable depending on altitude and clutter return.

4.3.2.1 Available STC options include:

• Off

• State <= 3: Winds are 10 knots or less. Wave height is approximately 3 feet or less. Indicated by large wavelets, crests beginning to break, and scattered whitecaps.

• State 4: Winds are 11-16 knots. Wave height is between 3.5 to 5 feet. Indicated by small waves becoming longer, numerous whitecaps.

• State 5: Winds are 17-21 knots. Wave height is between 6 to 8 feet. Indicated by moderate waves, taking longer form, many whitecaps and some spray.

• State >= 6: Winds are 22 knots or higher. Wave height is 9.5 feet or greater. Indicated by larger waves forming, whitecaps everywhere and more spray.

4.3.3 Settings:

The Settings Panel provides radar control features are provided and are mode dependent.

NOTE:

The Settings Panel is one of five panels available across the lower portion of the Radar Controller sub tab. It may be hidden by the EO/IR video window if the lower display is in normal configuration. Drag the Radar Controller sub tab scroll bar down or collapse the EO/IR video window.

4.3.1 • Primary: (current mode status only) reflects the current operation mode in use (i.e. ESTD or SEARCH).

• Tilt Type:

o Manual: MSO may set manual tilt value through use of the corresponding Tilt setting (directly below this field).

oTilt: Scroll option for adjusting tilt +1- degrees above or down to -40 degrees below the level of the aircraft in 0.5-degree increments.

Applicable only when Tilt Type has been set to Manual.

o Auto: (default) Radar will utilize inputs from the Signal Processor to automatically adjust the tilt value based on radar operating mode and aircraft altitude in order to maximize the radar returns with respect to the radar horizon.

The corresponding tilt value will not be reflected/updated in the Tilt setting field.

oTrack: Reflects MSO selection of the Tilt Radar to this track menu option via the primary or secondary track hook; right trackball button select.

• Gain Type:

o Manual: Only mode option available. Adjusts through Gain setting below.

• Gain: Scroll option 0 (no gain) to 31 (max gain) (default 31). The receiver gain control is normally set to maximum for the detection of small targets with weak returns. Gain is adjusted to prevent excessive video glare and to reduce back ground clutter around strong targets.

• Noise: Scroll option from 0-255 (default 105). REFERENCE ONLY, LEAVE DEFAULTED TO 105!!

The receiver noise level default setting is 105; this controls the DC bias of the receiver video. This noise level is adjusted in increments of ±15 to compensate for slight variations in the DC noise bias caused by slight temperature drifting in the R/T, small variations in the noise characteristics from one R/T to another, or changes in the observed live noise background.

• CFAR: Scroll option from 0 (equals CFAR Off) to 15 (maximum clutter reduction). Control button not visible in Minotaur 18.2.3....19.2.# fix????

CFAR is a digital process in which the detection threshold level can be adjusted on the basis of the measured noise level to adjust the false alarm rate at the optimum value by controlling the effects of sea clutter and noise returns. While the actual CFAR value adjustments are made through this menu option, adjustments will have no resulting display impacts unless the CFAR option has been selected within the Video Process select menu discussed above.

• Freq: Scroll option from 9.25 to 9.70 GHz (Default: 9.48).

Works in conjunction with the Frequency Agility (discussed below) that has been set to OFF. Under these conditions the system will operate on the single frequency that is selected (and displayed) here.

If Frequency Agile has been set ON, then this parameters has no operational impacts.

• Frequency Agility: (On / Off): When set to ON, Frequency Agility (FA) helps suppress the overall clutter return by randomly switching between the 46 available frequencies in order to achieve better detection. FA randomly steps through all 46 selectable frequencies in a manner that reduces interference caused by other radar systems. When set to OFF, the radar utilizes a single frequency, as set within the Freq scroll setting above it.

FA can also be utilized to help avoid ECMS. If the interference is of a known frequency, the radar may be commanded to a different single frequency. The default option of ON should be considered as the standard operating setting.

• PRF Jitter: (On / Off): PRF Jitter alters the Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF) interval to reduce the blind zones created by a constant Pulse Repetition Interval (PRI). Jitter may produce a slight degradation in detection. Jitter can also be utilized to help avoid detection by Electronic Counter Measure Systems (ECMS). When PRF Jitter is enabled (ON), R/T transmissions cycle through four different PRIs. When disabled (OFF), the PRI is constant to a single PRI.

8.3DYNAMIC Weather controls shall permit independent winds, individual cell(s) placement, rain intensity, visibility controls & radar returns.
8.4Humanoid Animation controls shall permit independent animation controls that are either random (canned) or scenario trigger-based controlled.
8.5Humanoid Listing: See worksheet tab: Humanoid Listing for requested humanoid and animation(s).
9Imagery Generation:

Maintain all aspects of PCNova imagery generation as established in the HC-130J MS-ORT. Additionally the PCNova will be updated to permit:

9.1 >Operating Areas Primary requirement is to utilize gaming areas already developed for other trainers/customers to eliminate development time and the additional cost associated with gaming area development; system shall allow for future expansion as areas are developed. Desired coverage would be from 30 nm inland to 200 nm out around the entire continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii. For the Caribbean AOR, coverage shall encompass land and sea between 15 and 25 degrees north latitude and 60 and 90 degrees west longitude.

9.2 >DNC Database Update the PCNova embedded DNC database for buoys, lighthouses, & oil rigs for the following locations:

1. San Francisco, CA

2. San Diego, CA

3. Kodiak, AK

4. Dutch Harbor, AK

5. Honolulu, HI

6. Boston, MA

7. Miami, FL

Area of coverage will be all associated harbors, approaches, channels and off shore areas out to 200NM.

9.3All DNC Points must maintain respective sensor modelling (i.e. EO/IR & Radar) characteristics.
9.4Anymore targets/models needed?
10Integrated Operating Mode:

The training device shall have two mutually exclusive operating modes; Independent (default mode) for standalone training operations and Integrated when receiving flight data from an OFT.

> MS ORT shall be capable of meeting Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) interface standards for networking and linking to the HC-144 OFT.

> Integrated mode will be configured via the OFT prior to MS-ORT initialization.

> The ability to separate the OFT and MS-ORT devices without requiring a full reset is desired.

10.1 An isolation coupling capability between the MS-ORT and HC-144 configured Operational Flight Trainer (OFT) device shall be established via a high-speed interface for digital data, audio and video transfer in order to accomplish readiness-quality certification training for the tactical crew.

>I nitiating freeze mode shall be available to both the OFT device and MS-ORT trainers. In this mode, once freeze is activated, only the OFT device shall be able to unfreeze the trainer.

> Both the OFT and the IOS device shall be able to disengage integrated mode.

10.2>While integrated, the flight dynamics of the trainer shall be governed by the flight control program of HC-144 OFT.
10.2.1When the integrated mode is selected, data shall be exchanged between the MS-ORT and the selected OFT to ensure the fidelity of training both the flight deck crew and the tactical crew. The data shall synchronize all visual and aural cues at both devices including the displays, communication and indicators. Instructor controls and malfunctions shall remain selectable in the coupled mode and appropriate responses shall be initiated at the proper device(s).

• Coupling control elements

• Visual database correlation

• Aircraft position, attitude and maneuvering correlation

• Environment effects correlation

• Navigation systems correlation

• Radio modes and status correlation

• Radio and ICS communications

• MSO Color High-Resolution Display (CHRD) displays, controls and video

• Pilot CHRD displays, controls and video

• Target position correlation and type

• Deployment of weapons/sensors correlation

• Buoy correlation

• Trainer mode correlation

• Gaming area correlation

• Instructor initiated controls and malfunction correlation

10.3 >When operating in independent mode (default), the MS-ORT simulation shall be governed by the IOS NGTS flight control program, as established in the HC-130J MS-ORT baseline.

Don, We did a rough measurement for the offset for the GPS antenna. Everything was measured from the FLIR Turret:

Front to back: 26ft= 793cm Up: 10ft= 305cm OFFEST to right/left: 1ft= 30cm

I was told they almost lined up perfectly to the foot.
