Internal Air Transport Certification

AFLCMC/EZFC (ATTLA)

2145 Monahan Way

WPAFB, OH 45433-7017

https://intelshare.intelink.gov/sites/attla/

Date: 18 August 2017 Item Nomenclature: Military Modular Aircraft Ramp System (MMARS) File Number: 2013.07.11 Rev 12 Requestor: On File

Superseded Certification Date: 18 May 2017

New Information Summary: Added diamond plate ramp surface (Figure 1) and added ramp part number L0094-19-36-46-1 (Table 1).

Reference Document:

(1) Landsport Memo, Military Modular Aircraft Ramp System (MMARS), 27 April 2017.

(2) ATTLA certification 2014.07.23, Landsport 20K Aluminum Loading Ramps, 28 July 2014.

Item Description: The subject item is identified to be the Military Modular Aircraft Ramp System (MMARS) manufactured by Advanced Aluminum Structures Inc., for loading cargo on aircraft (Figure 1). The MMARS consists of ramp and adjustable stand segments that can be assembled in various combinations to form approach ramps for use as a substitute for traditional approach shoring (Figures 1 and 2). The MMARS parts are listed in Attachments 1 Tables 1, 2, and 3.

The MMARS ramps range from 24” to 42” wide. Ramps for loading (fixed and rotary wing) aircraft tail wheel range from 24:” to 42” wide. The adjustable and door stands are 36”to 42” wide. The top of the ramp may have the RY Tread Grip surface to cover the gaps between beams (Figure 1).

File Number 2013.07.11 Rev 12

Figure 2. MMARS Parts, Illustrated

To reduce the weight for ease of handling, the door wedge and tarmac ramps were divided into two sections. They are shown in Figures 3 and 4. Older ramp sections that are solid are also acceptable.

(A) D-Hook - Door wedge and tarmac ramp sections that are 6“at the peak, have interlocking hooks called “D-Hooks” (Figure 3) for connecting the ramp sections.

Figure 3. D-Hook

(B) Pin On – Door wedge and tarmac ramps that are more than 6“at the peak, have interlocking pins to connect them (Figure 4).

Figure 4. Pin-ON

Certified Aircraft: The MMARS is approved for use as approach shoring and the kit is also approved for transport on USAF C-130, C-17 and C-5

Conditions of Certification:

a. Tables 1, 2 and 3 contain the parts numbers that are approved. The table also identifies part numbers prior to their part number change that remain approved.

b. Maximum Weight: Each pair of ramp section can support up to the weight ratings in Tables 1, 2 and 3 or the aircraft limitation whichever is less (e.g. 13,000 lb for C-130, 36,000 lbs for C-17/C-5).

c. Maximum Axle Weight: Each pair of ramp section can support up to the weight ratings in Tables 1, 2 and 3 or the aircraft limitation whichever is less (e.g. 13,000 lb for C-130).

d. If nonstandard cargo/equipment is presented for airlift with the use of MMRAS, the items may be loaded provided they do not exceed the limitations/procedures of this certification letter or the aircraft loading manual. Items that exceed the aircraft loading manual (i.e. projection, ramp cresting, ramp pedestal shoring, etc.) should use the individual airlift certification letter in conjunction with this certification letter.

2. Item Preparation:

a. The adjustable metal ramps may be used in multiple configurations, Figure 3 illustrates some examples. For assembly instructions and various applications refer to the MMARS User’s Manual.

Additional shoring may be required to facilitate loading.

b. If needed, auxiliary truck loading ramps or Tunner bridge plates can be used with the MMARS.

NOTE: All aircraft do not have auxiliary loading ramps per AFI 11-2C-130 Vol 3 Addenda A (Figure 3).

c. If the rubber pad is worn or damaged, a layer of shoring can be used to prevent metal-to-metal contact until the rubber pad can be replaced.

d. The shipper is responsible for providing all shoring material.

3. Loading Instructions:

a. The MMARS is designed to be used as approach shoring and can be shaped as needed to safely load cargo. The shape does not have to match the ATTLA certification instructions.

Caution: The adjustable stand has a foot to rest the aircraft ramp, ramp toes or ramp extension on (see Figure 2 and 5). Do not put shoring or C-5 Ramp Support Jack on top of the foot.

Figure 5. Examples of Various Configurations

Caution: Insure that the corners of the Main Ramps are at least 1” above the surface of the aircraft surface to prevent contact with the aircraft during loading. (See figure 6).

Figure 6. Clearance between MMARS Main Ramp Section and Aircraft Surface

WARNING: The 6” thick main ramp is to be used with an 8” thick door wedge ramp, otherwise the main ramp will contact the aircraft (Figure 6).

b. For unpaved or soft ground, place sufficient shoring under the base of the Adjustable Stand to spread the weight of the heaviest wheel/axle to below 50 psi. Calculate the required shoring dimensions using 16” L (base length minus foot) x 12” W (2 legs per stand) for the Adjustable Stand’s base.

c. Items that require rolling shoring inside the aircraft will also require the same amount of rolling shoring on top of the MMARS.

d. For ramps without the pooch plate, small wheels, steel wheels, deep cleated tires and tracked vehicle may require rolling shoring on top of the MMARS ramp to prevent them from catching in the open spaces.

e. For transporting the ramps themselves, use general procedures to load and restrain MMARS components/containers in available aircraft space.

Required Distribution:

1. Shipper shall give a copy of this certification to the ATOC representative when the item is presented for airlift. This memo shall be part of the official cargo manifest documentation package and shall be briefed to the aircraft loadmaster prior to using these items.

2. AMC/A3V & AMC/A4T.

3. SDDC TEA.
