3.2 PREPARATION:
A. Clearing: Clearing will be required along the majority of the proposed fence alignment. Machine clearing will not be allowed. The Contractor shall hand clear vegetation with chain saws, hand saws or similar to provide a maximum open width of 6 feet along the new fence alignment. Native materials generated by hand clearing shall be placed directly outside the clearing limits, as directed by the Contracting Officer.
3.3 INSTALLATION:
A. Wood Fence Post Panels: Refer to the Work Location Map for the approximate locations of wood fence post panels and wildlife passage gaps. Construct wood panels as shown on the drawings and as staked in the field. Post holes shall be dug or drilled and shall provide adequate open space around the post so backfill can be tamped the full depth around the post. Set posts plumb and to the spacing and grades as shown on the drawings, unless staked otherwise.
Backfill gradually and uniformly with soil around each post. Compact backfill firmly from the bottom of the hole to the ground surface. When treated members must be bored or cut during construction, thoroughly swab untreated surfaces with wood preservative.
B. Brace Wire: Double-loop and twist tight with a stick. Leave one end of the stick long enough to fasten behind the horizontal brace to prevent wire from unwinding.
C. Driving Posts:
1. Wood Posts: Driving wood posts will not be allowed.
2. Steel Posts: Drive into the ground to the depth shown on the drawings.
Posts shall be driven plumb and in a straight line along the alignment.
D. Wire: Stretch tightly and staple to wood posts. Wire is properly stretched when it is springy to the touch. Drive staples into wood until the staple comes in contact with the wire against the post, but not so tight as to crimp the wire or prevent movement of the wire. Do not drive staples parallel to the grain of the wood. Terminate wire at the middle post of each end wood panel. Wrap barbed wire around the post two times and tie off by wrapping around the incoming wire a minimum of four times.
E. Fence Clips: Install metal fence clips at “T” post locations, in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. Attach four clips per steel post at the designated fence spacing, as shown on the drawings.
F. Wood Fence Stays: Install fence stays, as shown on the drawings. Use two wraps of standard tie wire to attach stays to the barbed wire lines.
G. Wildlife Passage Gap: Construct the gaps, as shown on the drawings.
PART 4: MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
4.1 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT:
A. Units: The work described as mobilization/demobilization will be measured and paid for on a lump sum basis. New barbed wire fencing will be measured and paid for by the linear foot, as measured along the ground surface next to

Three post corner panels and end panels will be measured and paid for by each item, installed and accepted. Wildlife passage gaps will be measured and paid for by the complete unit, including two end panels, two wire gates and the center post.
4.2 BASIS OF PAYMENT:
