About this file
This document outlines specifications for an elemental analyzer and the related federal contract opportunity. The specifications call for a modular instrument that can analyze nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen, carbon and be upgraded to detect sulfur at extremely low concentrations. It must operate using dynamic combustion for nitrogen determination and potentially carbon, hydrogen and sulfur if modified. The system should allow for one or two independent furnaces, double channels using a single pneumatic circuit, and two automated analytical circuits each with an autosampler. It must be able to switch between helium, nitrogen and argon gases while in standby mode and be fully automated for unattended operation with software generating a comprehensive report. A minimum 15-year warranty is required for the furnace and thermal conductivity detector. The related federal contract opportunity is issued by the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service for an elemental analyzer under solicitation number 12405B23Q0578.

Text version
Elemental analyzer specifications:
The instrument must be modular so that it can be built upon to analyze other elements in addition to nitrogen (sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon). It must have multiple different configurations possible in one system and a detector that can be upgraded to measure sulfur in extremely low concentrations (ppm).
The instrument must operate by dynamic combustion of the sample (modified Dumas method) for nitrogen determination (and, if modified, for carbon, hydrogen and sulfur determination.)
It must be able to be equipped with 1 or 2 independent furnaces, with double channels connected using a single pneumatic circuit.
The system must allow installation of 2 analytical circuits which are automated and operated through a multi-valve control module with each circuit having its own autosampler.
It must have the ability to switch from helium gas to nitrogen or argon gas while in stand-by mode.
It must be fully automated for unattended analysis and controlled by software which generates a comprehensive report after analysis is complete.
The furnace and TCD (thermal conductivity detector) must have at minimum a 15-year warranty.
